Decent crowd, it seemed like almost as many USC fans as the other three schools combined.
Tara was sitting courtside next to the basket near the LSJU bench. How would you like to be Coach KP with your former boss/legend/mentor about 30 feet away, right in your line of sight on possessions in that half of the court! Tara mostly stoic, looked almost as locked in as when she was the coach, and some occasional gentle clapping other than at halftime and postgame when maybe the tv cameras were activated and she suddenly jumped up and went over to vigorously high five the players!
Best win for Stanford this season. Despite the restrictive (and very slow developing) offense that Coach Paye continues to use, players are adjusting and stepping up. Ogden continues to impress. You can see her confidence growing. The game has slowed down for her (finally) and while the consistency is not quite there, she is showing her ability to take over games, offensively. Somfai once again came back from a poor first half and made her presence felt with another double-double. Although neither Clardy or Swain played their best, I liked the fact that Paye gave them a lot more minutes than Lepolo.
Same with Eschmeyer, who played 16 minutes and although she didn't attempt a shot, her presence on the defensive end altered several Oregon shots and she had a big offensive rebound. Eschmeyer's teammates must look for her more. She is still 'a project', but her size and length can give Stanford another big weapon. The few lobs (into her) were way over her head.
Nunu obviously did not have a decent game. Perhaps she's recovering from an illness.
Good win.
