We’re all fans and we all have different triggers. With all due respect, BC, sometimes I think you’re too focused on your own. Take a deep breath and enjoy the flow.
I think it is a fair critique that I can be too deferential to the administration and program (I assume that those are the triggers to which you refer), but wouldn’t the “lighten up” also apply to everyone expressing a collective sense of doom about the Stanford basketball program? Shouldn’t everyone here take a deep breath and try to “enjoy the flow” of a group of young women trying to represent the school and play basketball as best they can? Yes, it is easier to enjoy the flow when you are winning than when you are not, but to me the the collective mood feels overwrought, and message boards being what they are, it is easy for feelings to rapidly snowball and become a pile on.
There is no question that the results this year are disappointing; I don’t dispute that. I also don’t begrudge anyone from voicing their frustration. I just don’t think that uninformed speculation about Swain or Somfai (or earlier in the season Eschmeyer) leaving is very constructive, message board or not. What does it accomplish? Now, if someone were to post that one of the players stopped following Stanford basketball on Instagram, then at least that’s something. Otherwise, I think it is reasonable to acknowledge that in today’s environment we will be at a heightened risk for an outbound transfer given the disappointing season, and, as Hieronymous noted, given the lightly regarded incoming class (and our clearly demonstrated lack of depth) even losing one or two players to the portal would be really bad.
But that’s just me… you (all) do you.
