A few things have changed late in the season:
Trending up: turnovers are way down the last few games. We even were +4 today.
Trending down: the rebounding edge that was keeping us in games is disappearing, -10 in this one - and that has cancelled out the improvement in turnovers.
Trending down: the defense is good enough to keep us in games, but isn't good enough to beat better teams anymore. Early and midseason we were almost always holding teams to the 60s or lower in regulation. We didn’t win all of those, but the defense kept us in it. Now we are usually giving up 70+ and that is the cut line. 70+ in regulation for the other team has been a guaranteed loss.
Trending the same (which is really bad): the offense still has no identity and ranges from trainwreck to not very good. We have no back to basket post game, though Agara faces up fairly well in the post. We have one decent 3 point shooter in Clardy (though she had a rough game), and a number of players who shoot 3s just well enough to get into trouble. Ogden can work in the mid range and closer in, but she is the only player who creates much on her own. Swain, Clardy and a little Shay can drive sometimes, but it’s inconsistent and isn’t very efficient. I haven’t seen a back door hoop in weeks. Nothing works with any consistency on offense and hasn’t all year.
The mid season formula of really holding on defense and then grinding out just enough points on offense and with strong offensive rebounding has fallen apart at the end of the year. So far the staff has no solutions.
