You are correct, Sir! Charles Haley's record...
San Francisco 49ers (XXIII, XXIV)
Dallas Cowboys (XXVII, XXVIII, XXX)

I found it interesting that the Steelers had so many players with four Super Bowl rings, the Niners, a decade later, had about a quarter as many, and then two decades after that, only Brady managed to win four with the Patriots. I think it says something about team stability over the ages. It also says something about Brady, that he could win Super Bowls with the entire team turning over around him.

You and Bob are both right, BC, it was Charles Haley. And the only player to have won three Super Bowls with three separate teams was Matt Millen (who won four, two with the Raiders, one with the Niners and one with Washington):
Oakland Raiders (XV, XVIII)
San Francisco 49ers (XXIV)
Washington Redskins (XXVI)
I think both Walsh and DeBartolo thought they should have won more Super Bowls, particularly in the pre-salary cap days. And Montana's career was prior to the introduction of the salary cap in 1994.
Supposedly, Walsh thought Montana was relaxing too much -- or was hurt -- and that's why he went after Steve Young and added him to the roster in 1988, three years after the 1985 Super Bowl season. They went 10-6 in 1985, but lost in the first round to the Giants. They went 10-5-1 in 1986, but lost in the first round of the playoffs 49-3 to the Giants. THey went 13-2 in 1987, but lost in the first round to the Vikings, 36-24.
After a second Super Bowl win after the 1984 season, Walsh thought Joe was slacking, and he had had it. So he went and got Steve Young. And I know that Joe Montana is credited with four Super Bowl wins, but if Steve Young doesn't make this run in a 24-21 win on 10/30/88 against the Vikings, the Niners end up 9-7 and miss the playoffs:
Steve Young's famous 49-yard game-winning touchdown vs. Vikings | October 30, 1988
Five NFC teams finished 10-6 that season, and the Giants and Saints missed out on the playoffs. With a loss to the Vikings, the Niners would have finished 9-7. Montana went 8-5 as a starter that season, Young went 2-1. Montana had terrible games before (loss vs. Bears) and after (loss vs. Raiders) Young's starts.
So...yeah, Montana gets credit for four Super Bowl Wins. But I give Young credit for one-and-a-half
