Well, Stanford found a work-around for a lower offensive rebound percentage: Don't miss.
A fun game for the fans and one team. Unfortunately we know how the Michigan team & fans felt as it must have felt a lot like the UConn game did to us. I was clapping strongly for their starters when they were pulled. I felt bad for #12 Kate Thompson. Having Sara on her was just as punishing as having a continuous double or triple team on your big. Thompson fought hard all game long to get free, but it wasn't to be. And it wasn't just Sara on her. I was also impressed with Bonnie's defense. And it wasn't just Thompson either. We shut down everyone but Jenny Ryan (5/5 including a 3).
I wonder, is it Kate Paye that is coaching the tight defense?
I think we could have won the game with either our offense or our defense, but the defense was clearly the more outstanding aspect. 40 points won't win many games.
Perhaps surprisingly, Michigan had some good aspects of their game tonight. 9 for 9 from the FT line is always good. 71% of their field goals came with assists. But I think the best is that Michigan committed only 3 fouls. That's amazing (and, quite possibly, foreshadowing of the way the tournament games are to be called). We committed our season average of 13 fouls. We beat our season average on both OR% and DR% (43% and 74%). A high dribble let Michigan get the only fast break points for either team. Of course, our 12 threes were a season high (but our 48% 3PT% only tied for 4th best of the season). Our 3PTA% (3PTA/FGA) of 48% was the season's second highest.  Although we only had 11 TO and 13 fouls, Michigan got half their points on points-off-turnovers plus foul shots.
I don't think we'll see another zone during the tournament.
It is kinda interesting to see the Tulsa and Michigan games next to each other in my stats. FG: 29/55 vs 28/52. 3PT%: 38% vs 48%. 2PT%: 57% vs 59%. A/FG: 48% vs 50%. The biggest differences were the 3PTA% (24% vs 48%) and OR% (30% vs 43%)
Tara could have substituted the reserves a bit earlier, but I wasn't really disappointed with when she did. It was their last game at home. The crowd was really supportive and the players were having fun.
All the starters had good games. I saw a few things (across at least 4 players) that could be better, but not a string of them.
Congrats to the team and the coaches!
