I am not entirely sure how this works, but my impression is that anybody can volunteer to be a writer for Bleacher Report.
Throughout the other pages there are more doozies - though perhaps none to the McCaffrey's the disappointment level.
Speaking of $C's struggle with our ball control offense:
"... you can count on Notre Dame, Utah and Cal (three of USC's next four opponents) to copy the Cardinal game plan."
cal is going to run a power-run, ball control offense???
Colorado - Nelson Spruce is their biggest disappointment.
Colorado's best player is #2 in the conference in receptions, 21st in the country - along with averaging 11.7 yds per catch, a little more than Cajuste for example.
The contrast between UCLA and UW is amusing. UCLA, a team generally predicted to win the south, has as its bright spot Josh Rosen "slaying the competition". Meanwhile UW, a team predicted to be last or near-last in the north, has as their disappointment is QB Jake Browning, who "must play smarter football" if UW is to compete.
Well, compare the two. Browning has a higher PER, higher yds/att, has thrown for more yds/game, has fewer INTs, but Rosen does have more TD throws. Given what they are working with, I'd reverse the two.
on cal,
"Remember, however, that the Golden Bears are yet to begin conference play."
Despite not knowing anything about c.a.l., he almost seems to be a weenie as he keeps sliding in strangely complimentary phrases about this team whose schedule he doesn't know. In the UW write up,
"The Huskies have shown that they can compete with arguably the conference's best team in Cal."
Well, I guess that is an arguable statement. I would certainly argue the point.

And in other news of questionable journalistic tropes, the ESPN Pac-12 blog continues to write things it doesn't really believe.Â
They write,
"Did you have Cal vs. Utah as the Pac-12's most consequential game and the Week 6 national marquee in the preseason? We didn't, either."
Well the choices are: c.a.l.-Utah, UW-$C, OSU-UA, WSU-UO, and Colo-ASU. I don't see how you could have picked anything other than c.a.l.-Utah as the most consequential game this particular week.
