I agree that one of the clear differences is that Stanford rebuilt itself on toughness and strength on the lines while Ca'l has relied on high octane passing. I don't know that one should be more predictably sustainable or not.

It will be interesting to see if Goff decides to return for a 4th year and a shot at glory. At this point, his college career will have broken a lot of school and perhaps conference records after three years, but probably unsatisfying in terms of team success. Will he take the Andrew Luck approach of gathering his band of brothers to finish what was started, or will he want to avoid the inevitable avalanche of hits he'll sustain behind that porous o-line for a 4th year?

French Rage - That's exactly how I remember it and I thought it was hilarious that Harbaugh continued to annoy Carroll.

As for Sonny Dykes calling time out yesterday at the end of the game, I think he only did it because UCLA / Rosen screwed up the kneel down / victory formation timing. There were two minutes left in the game when UCLA got the ball and Cal had all three of their timeouts. On first down, UCLA ran the ball up the middle not knowing if Cal was going to burn any of their timeouts. They didn't call timeout so UCLA went to a kneel down on second down. But for some reason Rosen snapped the ball with 10 second left on the play clock. On third down, Rosen did the same thing so there was still 55 seconds left on the game clock (when there should have been under 40 seconds if Rosen had run the play clock down on both second and third down). UCLA was going to have to punt again. That's when Cal decided to take that timeout and run some more plays. Mora looked pissed on the sideline on the second down kneel down. Apparently Rosen either can't do math or doesn't understand the way the play clock works. It was weird.

I wouldn't go so far as to predict specific games, but I think they'll be marginally under a coin flip for the first three and about 25% against Stanford. So expected value of ~1.75 for those for games. They could lose all four, probably win one, have a decent chance at two, and a long shot to win more than that.

But Harbaugh had his back-ups in the game when he did that against U*S*C -- Loukas instead of Pritchard, Stewart instead of Gerhart, Gunder and Reuland instead of Dray. Dy.kes played his starters all the way to the end, risking injury so they could score a meaningless TD.
