Only three home games while the students are on campus. I hate that. Isn't football supposed to be a student activity?

As long as USC and Stanford both play Notre Dame during the conference portion of the season, as a rule we will play USC during the first three weeks. There is very little way around it. Stanford and USC were the only two conference teams to have a date open on the week of the 17th; every other Pac-12 team was playing a non-conference game that week. Thus, either both teams had a bye on the third week, or they played each other.

Playing Rice can be thought of as a bye of sorts before the conference championship game.

The students will not be on campus for the Rice game. It's on Thanksgiving break. There are only three home games scheduled while students are on campus.

On net, though, isn't it better to play SC early while they are still trying to "figure it out" rather than once they are clicking on all cylinders mid-seasons? I feel like it is probably better to play the really talented teams early.

and the KSU game is the Friday night of Labor Day weekend which will no doubt help boost both the TV audience and actual attendance...not.....

Maybe it's just me, but with the runner-up to the Award That Shall Not Be Named on our team (who clearly should have won it), I can't imagine Stanford having anything but a 10+ win season next year.Â
Every game is a fight. Our fighters are well trained and smart. Our coaches have trained our fighters to 3 Rose Bowls in 4 years. Our new class of fighters are 3rd ranked in the nation. Some of them might even join the fight as true freshmen.
I'm excited to see Hogan lead this team against Iowa in the Rose Bowl. I'm very excited to see our team take on our opponents next season under new QB leadership. I can't wait to see CMAC make another run at that stiffarm award. GO CARD!

The most annoying things about this schedule are caused by playing ND:
1) It's currently aligned so that we play them away during the same years we have 5 away conference games. This is stupid and should be changed and makes it impossible to get to 7 home games a year (people deride SEC scheduling but there's a reason they do it and I wish we got closer to it).
2) Playing them mid-season mean we're virtually guaranteed to get a conference game or a bye (or both!) before students arrive.
3) USC also playing them leaves a gap for us on Thanksgiving, which means we either get UCLA (bad idea, as we saw in 2012) or some uninspiring non-conference game there.
I've been inclined to drop ND for a few years now, I wish that the AD would, at the very least, work it out so they're aligned with 4/5 Pac-12 split. We're effectively on a 4/6 conference game split and it's dumb.
Eh, college football junkies aren't going out on Fridays anyway and this is a matchup of two teams that have both been good lately, I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the games of the week and it'll be all alone in its timeslot. But yeah, attendance at the stadium will probably be weaksauce, but that's just a sad, unfortunate given at this point.

There was a suggestion to play Big Game in Santa Clara one year to shift the conference schedule + ND to a 5/5 cycle. I remember that the weenies were opposed to it because the proposed neutral-site game would have taken place when it was their turn to host. Maybe we should try to revisit the idea for 2017 so it appears that we are taking the first scheduling hit.

Notre Dame is not the problem here; the problem is the loss of San Jose State as a team that would play us at home most years because they want the payday that comes from being a sacrificial lamb (this year they were Auburn's auto-win). Since most of the non-conference teams we will be playing will be home-and-homes, on the years we have Notre Dame and 5 conference games at home, we will have both non-ND out of conference games away.
Which is to say that I expect this year to have been the last where schedule 7 home games until 2019, unless we get a Davis, Sacramento State, or San Jose state to come visit without a return game. For example, 2017, we get Notre Dame and 5 conference games at home, but we travel to 4 conference games and Rice and San Diego State (that's a reason not to schedule a neutral game against Cal).

Hank, UW loses Topou, Feeney, and Littleton up front, and those guys were key to that defense. And a year ago, their defense lost four players who went the top 44 in the NFL draft--DE Ki'kaha, CB Macus Peters, NT Danny Shelton, and LB Shaq Richardson. Their defense is going to step back. It's not as if their current DBs (two first team all cons) can play much better, and the pressure in UW's front seven made a major difference to them.
Plus UW didn't have an offense last year, and lose their top three wide receivers--and Browning isn't Rosen, Falk, or even Chryst.
They are tough in Seattle, but we're a much better team.
