There hasn't been a lot of chatter about Men's BB. With the season upon us, I'm cautiously optimistic that Stanford will make it to postseason play this year, but I'm curious how others on this board are feeling. It will be interesting to revisit the poll after the season!

I feel like it's really hard to assess as yet. New coach, new approach, and while we return largely the same team, we lose our leading scorer and have two key players who sat out most or all of last season. I feel like it's realistic that we could either fail to make the NIT or make the first weekend of the NCAA. It just seems like a pretty noisy prediction until we see how Haase has reassembled our team.

Has Haase said anything about the starting lineup?  Assuming that Cartwright is 100%, I'd like to see Travis-Humphrey-Sheffield-Pickens-Cartwright.  But I have no idea what Haase is thinking.  Any news?  A quick search didn't turn anything up.

If the players are supposed to have EUTM, then I'm going to have some EUTM too. 

I anticipate that we will be surprised.  I'm going with top half of the Pac-12 finish.  Good coaching can go a long way.  The team already has great size/length, and I think the players have versatility that will be much better served with a decent system.  I think Dawkins was a good recruiter of talent, but he never seemed to be able to utilize that talent in a cohesive manner.  I already can see that Haase is going to be more vocal and animated than Dawkins (not hard), and I think that should translate to team effort.

We should be better on the defensive end, because anything has to be better than the coaching we had before.  We often played an absolutely porous zone with players doubling back to the post for no reason, and then chasing back to 3 point shooters without any kind of control.  This only worked against bad teams who couldn't shoot or penetrate.  Our rebounding should be better with Travis back.  We are very long with Humphrey and Sharma in the back. 

On offense, it will help to have Cartwright back, since we had so much trouble just bringing up the ball last year against teams that could pressure.  If we can get some 3 point shooting (Pickens can shoot, hopefully we'll get some consistency from Sheffield and Cartwright), we can be dangerous.   

I will be interested to see how much time Pugh and Stanback get -- I think Pugh will be an early contributor.

Long time reader first time poster, but here's my 2 cents. I graduated in '15 and was at every game when I was on campus except when I studied abroad my junior year (aka the year that saved Dawkins), so I witnessed some pretty lifeless bball in my time on the Farm. Last night's game encouraged me, and I think they'll end up surprising some people and finishing better than 10th in the Pac 12. That said, the team is still clearly adjusting to the new system and while I obviously hope for a tourney bid I'm not banking my life savings on it. I pretty much agree with Winflop's assessment, but want to add that Grant played a great game off the bench. Our man defense could use some work and definitely gave up some wide open looks, but that's to be expected after spending so much time in the zone under JD. Hopefully that continues to improve along with the team. Not sure about you guys, but I'm actually excited about this year!

Haase has this team looking motivated and playing some good ball...I'm trying not to let one game get me too enthusiastic, but Muir seems to have found a guy here.  Haase, from Kansas, should know what a great program/dynasty looks like from the inside, and hopefully he's building that kind of program right now.

Good point about Grant, of whom I have been critical in the past.  He shows signs of being a strong contributor off the bench.  The other thing I liked is the energy of the team, and I think a part of that comes from a coach with a very different demeanor.
