Some notes:
Stanford women's swimming has not won a NC in this century.  Last championship - 1998.
Stanford swimmers have the fastest times in 10 of 13 individual events and 4 of 5 relays.  Between Simone Manuel and Katie Ledecky, Stanford has the top time in every freestyle event.

A lot of love from Swimswam for Stanford, as seen in their predicted outcomes.  One of the comments reflected exactly what I was thinking -- "A lot of Stanford."  I expect a fall off from such near-perfection (how could there not be, especially when races are often decided by hundredths of seconds), but Stanford is obviously the overwhelming favorite.

But enough of the predicted accolades, which runs the risk of devaluing the actual outcome, assuming they are true.  And if they're not....ooof.

Thanks for the great info.  I saw Greg over the weekend and he seemed relaxed and ready.  He's really done a fantastic job with this team.  I know expectations are high, but I think he has the team ready to exceed expectations.  Here's to a great meet for the Cardinal women!

That's an amazing swim at 6:45.91, breaking the record they set at Pac-12s by a full 3.5 seconds.  The prior record before this year was the C.al relay in 2015 with Cierra Runge and Missy Franklin, who swam a 6:50.18.

Just for fun I checked out the men's NCAA 800 relay time from 1967, and with three Olympians they swam 6:54.65.  I know it is 50 years ago, but it does show how swimming has changed over that period.

Stanford absolutely destroyed the NCAA and American Record tonight, bringing it down with a dominant 6:45.91. Simone Manuel led them off in 48.57/1:41.41, followed by teammates Lia Neal (49.05/1:42.15), Ella Eastin (49.52/1:41.89), and Katie Ledecky (48.97/1:40.46).

While Ledecky’s 1:40.46 anchor split was well ahead of anyone in the heat, the fastest split of the night came from Louisville’s Mallory Comerford, who threw down a 48.59/1:40.21 on the 2nd leg in heat 2.

Based on today's swims, it appears that Katie would likely beat Simone  by a few tenths in the 200.

I find it interesting to compare today's times to the race in the PAC-12s, to get an idea of how the taper has worked.
