We didn't hold their high-octane offense to 7, we held their hobbled and ineffective offense to 7. It was still a good performance, but I suspect that with Herbert in there they would've had more than 40 passing yard for the game...

Southern Cal cannot afford a loss to ND this week under any circumstances. But I will be rooting against them because I always do!

Stanford's odds of getting into the playoff are essentially nil, so why do we care? What difference does it make to us if some other team goes and gets murdered by Alabama? I suppose that gives us somewhat greater odds of making a NY6 bowl, but with 3 losses I just don't see that happening (yeah, it did with USC last year, but I don't think we'd get that "OMG BLUE BLOOD" bonus that put them in over Colorado).

If Stanford wins out (which is very unlikely), they have 60% chance of making the playoffs. That sounds crazy as you will point to a 1 loss Oklahoma or 1 loss TCU or 1 loss Clemson, but odds are those teams will have two losses with both losses more recent than Stanford's losses.

Fish Duck is always a good read.  Must have been tough to write in the context of the loss, but it is absolutely true that the Oregon running game had a field day against us (though mostly when we missed Phillips and Kalambayi).

IMHO clearly a different picture.    Part could be the game being out of hand and us holding the ball decently;  Given some good plays from both Phillips and the Preying Mantis plus the results I feel their presence contributed significantly to the lower number.

The first half was disappointing but not surprising. I was hoping the Dline and MLBs we’re improving to the point to of being able to compensate Phillips absence, by that clearly wasn’t the case. Our D line was getting blown out of their lanes making LBs and DBs make tackles in space. To their credit, they only gave up 7 points despite all the rushing yards and did make some key stops when it counted.

I was happy with our run D in the second half. It wasn’t amazing, but Oregon is a good running team and the fact is we just don’t have an elite Front 7 this year. If our Offense continues to play well, the 2nd half run D combined with an increasingly opportunistic secondary will give us a good chance against any but the elite rushing attacks, which we don’t face again.

Realistically, I think the only chance we will ever get to the national championship semi-finals (top 4) is to have a perfect, no loss season.

I'll be stoked if we win the North, capture another Pac 12 crown, and secure a W in a really attractive bowl game.
