Following the game on my phone, I saw we had a decent 5-8 point lead throughout most of the game, so it was disappointing that Ohio State was able to rally and win the game in OT. That would have been a significant win on our record.
I am pleased that we put up a significantly better fight against the Buckeyes than we did just two weeks ago and without Brit in the lineup. That is good progress in half a month.
Giving up the offensive rebound and turnovers have been our two biggest problems in our three losses. Not watching the game, I don't know if our turnovers tonight were due to Ohio State's defense and a continuation of some sloppy errors. Either way, we need to cut them down. Whether it's a turnover or an o-board, we can't give great teams extra chances to score points, especially when our offense isn't up to par, yet.
Speaking of our offense, it seems to me that the Vegas team has sparked some firepower on our team. We are still a bit streaky for my liking. Alanna had a monster game and Anna showed off her three point shooting tonight, but everyone else was largely quiet and no one else was in double digits besides those two. In comparison, all five starters for Ohio State scored in double figures.
Getting Brit back will hopefully help. Hopefully having both Brit and DiJonai in there at the same time will mean defenses can't focus on just one of them and at least either of them can have a big game.
But even though we gave up 90+ points to the Buckeyes, we played better defense on Mavunga and contained Mitchell for a good chunk of time. These are good signs of progress just two weeks into the season.
Now, we can head back to the Bay Area, rest for a couple days, take care of San Francisco in the city and see how well we match up against Baylor in Waco before getting to our finals break and hopefully seeing Brit return to the floor in the games before Christmas.
