Longoria has been quoted as saying that hes a slow starter. So why not find some fake injury and sit him for a month.
The Giants are scared shitless that the fans would go bye bye if they continued being the worst team in baseball so they wont rebuild. The past offseason was the chance.

If you told me a week ago wed escape 2-2 Id call that a big win with our staff as it is. Our lineup will do better. Our pitching staff may do worse, but at least so far looks hopeful.

I remember Randy Elliott. Had two short cups of coffee with the Padres in 1972 and 1974. Couldn't stick. On the strength of his 1977 training camp with the Giants, he started in left field for the first few months. Batted .240, OPS was .682. Seven HRs in 167 ABs, so he had a little power. Good fielder. No speed, weak arm. Retired for a year, then Billy Martin liked him enough to give him his final cup of coffee with the A's, batting .125. Career .210 hitter. Had a chronically troublesome shoulder, maybe dislocated a lot. When his shoulder stayed in, he was pretty good. In the second swing of the 1977 regular season, Doug Rau hit him on the shoulder and ruined him. After baseball, he taught special ed for kids, coached high school ball, ran some hitting camps.Â
I think Duggar is going to have a very hard time with the bat. He hit .270 at San Jose and .261 for Sacramento in AAA. He's a reach, IMHO.

After watching McCutcheon and Blanco dancing under a fly ball, my vote is for Dugger. His bat would certainly not be any worse than what we have seen.

Unfortunately he looked overmatched at the plate the last couple weeks of spring. He lost almost all of last year which hurt him at the plate. Hes obviously a terrific defender.
I think the Giants are smart to let him get as many AAA at bats as possible. They dont have a hell of a lot down there so they truly need him to be ready when he comes up. My guess is around June 1.
