Sure, the Giants now have the same 6-10 record they did through 16 games in 2017. The difference is, in 2017 they had five games in which they scored 1 or fewer runs through the first 16 games.  This season they have NINE such games, after being shutout last night for the 4th time in 16 games to start 2018.

This, as most of us suggested, is a terrible baseball team that needs to be blown up.  And so much for all that leading MLB in Spring training offensive iron pyrite.  The Giants are tied with the Royals for the fewest runs scored (46) in MLB, but the Giants are the worst, because they have played one more game than KC.  Their pitching is better than some teams, but it's not going to be good enough to even sniff wild card contention when the offense can't even muster 3 RPG.  So what's the point of trying with an old team that has no future upside?

One other note: The Giants have only so far played one team with a top 12 best record in MLB, in the D-Backs. Their next 12 games are against Arizona, Anaheim, Washington, and the Dodgers who are starting to get it together.

IOW, the season is OVER.  Just pack it in and start rebuilding, as every knowledgeable Giants fan suggested after the 2017 season debacle.

At least then you can get some bacon, pork chops, shoulder, and ribs from it that someone might want to buy.

Giants will be fine. They will be flirting with .500 much of the season and may be sniffing a wild card until September. Their early season schedule hasn't been easy. There are a lot of teams that stink and are tanking it that the Giants are better than.  Stratton and Cueto are pitching very well. MadBum will be back.  Despite slow starts McCutcheon and Longoria are professional hitters and good fielders. This team is a lot better than last year.

I'm still cautiously optimistic. The Giants are 7-10 despite hitting very poorly as a team. Cutch, Longoria, Pence, and Crawford are all likely to improve from the plate just from regression to the mean. The bullpen is playing pretty well and Cueto and Stratton have been great.  If they can keep it up the Giants will have a good rotation once Bumgarner and Smarzdija return.  They just need to find a way to play near .500 ball until then.

Joe Garagiola once said, “ You get one Social Security number and one baseball team”.  Mine is the Giants - from the day my parents let me stay home from school to listen to Ruben Gomez toss a shutout v. the Bums to the present, I’ve been with them - Giants forever.... 

As for this season, I don’t think we can accurately assess their chances until the 40 game mark.  It takes 25% of the season to get a real handle on things.
