On our second to last drive, which took 1 min 39 sec, we got 28 yards on a Love run on first and ten from the 20.  I couldn’t believe we were dumb enough to run needing two scores with 5 minutes to go, until I was screaming “go, go, go!”

That being said, 8 yards from the end zone, why not throw to Colby Parkinson or Kaden Smith.  I realize we don’t have the JJAW box out play to go to, but it’s not like we don’t have receivers who can go up and catch it in the end zone.

I am nervous about the future of Stanford football. As a team we are no longer built to be a run first team, which is even more true next year. I think Shaw has shown us that he is too stubborn to play to his personnel. Additionally, Stanford's pound the ball mentality worked well when we had a stout defense. Then it became a matter of controlling the field position battle. 

Our defense is just not good enough to consistently get quick stops. Until we can build a D-line I don't see it happening.

In my view, it's less a question of the quantity of runs vs. passes as the timing (as you point out above when we had 1st and goal at the 8 and a chance to pull within 3 points, why run three fruitless times for a total of 5 yards, then kick the FG?).  

The foundation for our loss vs. the Huskies was laid in the first quarter.  We had three possessions and went 1) run, pass, run, punt; 2) run, run, pass, punt; 3) and already trailing 14-0, we then went into full-on pass mode and went pass, pass, pass, INT to set up Washington's third TD in three possessions.  We amassed a TOP of 04:41 during that quarter and trailed 21-0 after 17:40 of the first half. 

We started passing a whole lot more in the 2nd Q, but, after a 2nd INT, had no points to show for the 24 plays and 117 yards we generated.  

The 3rd quarter was our most productive: we had two possessions and scored on both, with a good mix of running (8 plays) and passing (7 plays), though most of the yards came from passing.  

Then, in our next two possessions, the inclination to run crept back into the mix and produced: 1) run, run, pass (IC), punt and 2) pass, run, run, run, FG.  After this possession (the 10th overall), we trailed by 7 points and, when time was getting tight, only had three points to show for two opportunities with the ball.

From this point on, we only ran 3 more times and produced one more TD to pull within 4 (after the missed PAT).  Too little, too late.  And possessions 9 and 10 to start off the 4th quarter were wasted opportunities to put up badly needed points. 

Also, our YPP in the running game amounted again to a paltry 3.3, which is among the worst on the FBS level.  Our 77 yards of rushing further drops our average-per-game this season and will cause us to slide down further in the rankings.  So even though the quantity of running plays was down, the timing of those plays and the overall effectiveness were questionable.   

On the other hand, it is incredible that we were even in the game after our total collapse in the first 17 minutes and our negative turnover balance of -3.  I had said we would have a chance to win if the D showed up and if we won the turnover battle.  The D showed up about twenty minutes too late; and we lost the turnover battle in a big way.  In some respects, it is stunning that the final margin of victory was not higher and that we had a realistic comeback opportunity.  Another frustrating loss.

Why we didn't just run up and spike the ball, and then sub, is beyond me.  That clock mismanagement killed me.  There WAS plenty of time, and we were gashing their defense at that time.
