On the season:
1. UCLA hits a little more often , for a little more power.
Batting average: UCLA .275, Stanford .266
ISO power: UCLA .153, Stanford .145
2. UCLA allows fewer hits, but more big ones, and walks more batters:
Batting average allowed: UCLA .194, Stanford .224
ISO power allowed: Stanford .064, UCLA .094
ISO on base allowed: Stanford .069, UCLA .084
ERAs: Stanford 2.42, UCLA 2.61
3. UCLA is tough to run on; Stanford is impossible.
Handley: two steals allowed, only four runners have bothered to try
McInerney (part time because he cannot hit); eight allowed, nine attempts
4. The star tally is about even (D1 Baseball’s Top 150 honorees)
Stanford (5): Little, Miller, Daschbach, Stowers, Tawa
UCLA (4): Garcia (P), Toglia (1B), Strumpf (2B), Kriedler (IF);
The Bruins' Jeremy Ydens, also on the list is out with an injury.
5. If Stowers, Tawa and Dasch are back, Stanford has a slight edge—and home field
Stanford has slightly outhit UCLA over the last month, is a player deep in its bullpen, and has an edge on defense thanks to Handley. And UCLA’s relative vulnerability to the big ball plays into a Stanford offense with five players who can go deep (Matthiesen, Wulff, Dasch, Stowers, and Tawa). But this is a terrific UCLA team.
