Apparently there is a lot of talk in the clubhouse about Farhan’s moves.

LOL. None of these guys have knowledge of how bad it was following the breakup of a young ball club by Stoneham after the division title in ‘71. Some of the moves were astounding.

Perry for a washed up Sam McDowell because Charlie Fox had scouted McDowell in HS and because Fox couldn’t stand Perry. I was with the Giants at the time.

Loss through free agency and trades of Maddox, Mathews, Stone. Selling Kingman to make the end of month payroll. Bonds for the total azzhole Murcer. The Montanez deal. Brutal.

What followed was the Randy Eliot Era of penny pinching and daytime “crowds” of 2,000. Later some moves like signing Joe Morgan paid off in a pennant chase in ‘82 and then a horrible run until Roger Craig took over. So we have seen terrible baseball before. Plus move the damn fences in so the opponents can hit even more homers.

The Giants are worse than an expansion team right now.  Anyone who is bothering to read this knows all the reasons why.

So what options do they have, exactly, other than churning through the roster?  I'd actually prefer they DFA guys like the Brandons, even though they are under contract for a combined $62 million over their next two seasons. I mean if you are gonna drop guys who aren't performing, why not those two? You owe the money no matter if they play or not.  How is the future helped by preventing younger players with more upside from playing, so two guys with falling production can be run out on the field?  

It's time for the Baby Giraffe and the local boy who made good to be shown the door. We appreciate what they did, but hanging on to the past isn't good for anyone.

I agree that the Shark should be released. Maybe they can trade him if they eat most of the contract, but I doubt it. He is a never-was, not a has-been. Crawford might actually play well for a team that he is traded to. I can't help but feel that the dropoff is at least partially due to knowing the team sucks. That isn't supposed to matter, but it does. That doesn't mean I oppose trying to trade him for whatever we can get. It just means be prepared for it to look like a mistake, at least for a while.
