We're happy you're happy with our could-have-been sixth-string running back.

I love this quote from Barkley:
"He's using his brain," Barkley said. "He's using the mental side of the game, I think, to stand out from all the other guys."
Clearly Amir's ability to actually think is setting him apart from other SC players! Now that's classic! Who is the SC player that's getting quoted in the press right now for his less than thoughtful comments? I wish him luck.

JH really wanted AC (you may recall some of JH's tweets on the subject). I suspect he's a real talent and I wish him luck in every game but one.

Thank you, somebody who's not defensive. I always thought he was gonna be a very productive player at Stanford due to his well-rounded game, but I didn't think he'd contribute early. Some USC fans weren't really hyped about his commitment due to the fact that he isn't really elite in one athletic category. I knew he'd be a good one, just didn't think he'd be getting burn early in his career. He's a great kid, and USC's lucky to have him. It really shines light on how JH's teams turned into what they are now. He was recruiting great kids who happened to be great football players.

Fair enough, Yvonne.
Might aswell use that up while you can. You'll have to use something else after Saturday, Oct 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. ;)

Come on. If you post a remark about a former Stanford recruit and how he's (apparently) flourishing at another school, do you expect:
a) Huzzahs
b) Taunting
c) Congratulations?
It's silly to expect anything other than taunting, which is exactly what happened. It's nice that Carlisle is doing well at the University of Spoiled Children, but he'd be a minor at best component of our team this year, and he'd have a lot of tough competition to beat out going forward. So, again: I'm happy you're happy. I'm happy Amir's happy. But if he's going to play that a significant role for you, I'd be concerned about your depth at running back.

Nope, I was one of those SC fans who thought it'd be another blow-out in favor of the Cardinal.

Like I said, I'm just busting balls here. To say he'd be sixth on the depth chart is pretty far-fetched (IMO), but I'm not the stanford fan, and I'm sure you'd know better than me when it comes to stanford football.

Let's see:
Stepfan Tayler
Anthony Wilkerson
Tyler Gaffney
Remound Wright (who based on his tweets is thrilled to be at Stanford)
Kelsey Young
Yeah, I guess we'll all cry in our milk over a guy who didn't even bother to fill in the application.
Enjoy your bowl, loser!

Yvonne, you forgot Ricky Seale and Jeremy Stewart.
Like I said: sixth-string. At best.

Fixed it for you (he's probably better than Gaffney too, but I'll be conservative with this intial ranking).

Shouldn't we compare results on the field?Â
Braveheart:Â A question.
How can you be proud of a school that has to cheat like a common shoplifter?

Better than Gaffney? That seems unlikely--Gaffney is, after all, a junior, who's gotten better every year. Had he not gotten injured last year, I suspect he and Taylor would've split carries. Better than Jeremy Stewart? Doubtful--though to be fair Stewart's more of an intangibles guy. Better than Ricky Seale? Possible, but then again Seale looked very good in the spring game and has a year's experience in the offense. So it's hard for me to believe Carlisle would've ranked above those five guys, this year.
As to the other freshmen:
Better than Wright and Young? It's certainly possible. But there's no evidence to believe this; while Matt Barkley has been talking favorably about Carlisle, Shaw has been talking favorably about Kelsey Young and Wright. Do you have some insight as to why Barkley's hype should be taken more seriously than Shaw's? Recruiting-wise, Young was ranked #12 by Rivals and #21 by Scout; Wright was #16 by Rivals and #20 by Scout; Carlisle was #4...as an "all-purpose back"--classic Rivals code for "guy we don't think will touch the ball a lot"--and #15 by Scout. All were four-stars. I'm not as negative on the recruiting services as some are, but I do believe it's foolish to distinguish between, say, the #15 running back and the #20 running back. There's not a substantial difference between any of them to be so bullish. It's conceivable any of the three will end up being the best, and so there's little evidence to be so certain one way or another, unless you're being wholly unobjective.
by the by: I'm pretty sure we were considering turning Carlisle into a wideout or cornerback. Like I said, Carlisle was not so important to us as a running back. If he's important to you, then your depth at running back is worrisome.
