Is there toxic waste in the locker room? Something must be driving all this, no?
Quote:The Athletic studied the careers of the top 50 high school quarterbacks who signed with FBS programs in the recruiting classes of 2014 through 2017 because those signees have all been in college for at least three years. So far, 57 percent of those QBs have transferred from the school they initially signed with. And that percentage will likely increase during this offseason.

The Merc's story on Stanford and the transfer portal a few days seemed be "don't panic, but be a bit concerned." This, if true, moves it up a notch. Or two. Do I really want our offense to stand solely on David Mills's legs? (Or Jack West's, though I'm sure he's better than his first start.)

Also Tanner McKee.

It bugs me when opposing teams' offense come up to the line of scrimmage, get ready for the snap, then everyone stops and looks to the sideline for an alternative play call by a coach, based on how the defense has lined up. But it seems to me that us adopting that approach would help us get playing time for our young quarterbacks who are physically ready to play and have learned a chunk of the playbook but can't yet read the defenses and call the right alternative play on their own. No?

His mission started on July 10, so I guess he comes in time for fall practice.

Quote:An update from our 2017 story on former Corona Centennial star Tanner McKee, who overcame a melanoma diagnosis to be one of the best QB prospects in the 2018 class. Tanner took a two-year mission after high school, and he will soon enroll at Stanford.

If that's truly the case, and, more importantly, if he doesn't come back until the fall, I would think that the chances of him contributing significantly his first year are very slim.
Quote:Reality is, McKee, who regularly eats the traditional Brazilian fare of beans and rice, has lost 15 pounds of muscle from his frame in the year since he arrived here. His neck has shrunk a bit and his pants, which were tight on his legs when he arrived, now flap in the breeze.

Bob can tell us whether there is anything comparable for regular admissions for special consideration for athletes. The one transfer athlete I remember is Brook Smith in WBB who transferred from Duke in 2003. I'm sure there must have been a handful of others--but it is never going to be a reliable part of athletic recruiting.
