Haase's recruiting has been phenomenal, especially of late, and that should translate to wins, as soon as this coming season (if there is a season). But he is 68-61 as a Stanford head coach in four years, has had a losing season twice, has had a winning Pac-12 record once, and has never made the NCAA tournament. In three of four years, he has been in the bottom half of the Pac-12, even as the Pac-12 has been on a downswing.
I am as excited as anyone about Williams, Ingram, and all our recruits. I liked what I saw last year. But at some point, all the excitement has to translate into wins and NCAA tournaments, or it won't matter a lick.

Football is the ultimate team sport (of revenue sports). Great players can help you win but culture and teamwork and coaching is even more important. That's why Harbaugh resurrected football without top recruiting classes, and it is why Shaw rode the wave back down despite being given they keys to the Lamborghini or whatever has been said before. The problem is that now Shaw is going to continue to have mediocre recruiting classes in addition to his inability to manage a game and a team and that will continue the spiral down. Since Shaw cannot seem to turn the ship on his coaching or his recruiting I don't see how folks can use his record as support for his future performance.
Basketball is not exactly the ultimate team sport. One player can make all the difference. 1 superstar in football makes only 5% of the starting roster (offense and defense) while 1 superstar in basketball is 20% of the roster. If Haase can bring in top 10 recruits each year they're at least going to be competing for Pac-12 championships each year. Something Shaw won't be doing.
