Is that really a step up though? I would think the only thing Duke has that Stanford doesn't is a powerhouse Men's bball team and in a more respected conference. Besides those two things, Stanford has them beat.

As an alum of one of the 11 sports cut by Muir, this would be music to my ears if he left for Duke. Duke is a step down from Stanford but the daughter being there and Muir's basketball background could make that job enticing.

Fixed it for you. If Muir ever desires to leave Stanford before retiring, this would be his obvious move, and with his daughter starting school there, I'd put the odds at better than 50/50.

Very much so. He's always considered program cuts to be a good first option when it comes to AD optimization.

Bloated staff? I think someone posted awhile back that we had more associate or assistant ADs than sports teams. I'm sure they're all very necessary. . . .

It's worth noting that people like Mike Eubanks are on the AD staff, even though they are really working for the football team. In fact, Eubanks is one of three "Associate Athletics Directors" on the football staff:
