Stanford - 10.5 points currently.
Quote:Not even a little bit. We beat a team who's best guards where watching from the sideline. If we stay within' 20 of Stanford, i might change my mind, a little. Being the smallest team will never be an advantage. We play very hard, that's a given, but that don't get you rebounds, or help get your shot off agains't taller players. We played our best ball in this tourney with Dixon, Balogun and Konno giving us more size. I see the same thing happening tomorrow. But will it be enough, i sure hope so but don't see it being close in reality. Sorry, but i call em' like i see um'. It would take a perfect shooting night to give us a chance. That could happen i suppose. 3's better be falling for us, that's for sure. If Jeff is reading, please play Dixon more than 25 minute's. Please. LOL.

Certainly has been effective up to this point.
Is this because their taller players are injured, not very good, or just that Walz prefers a small and speedy lineup?

Quote:"It's got to start with ball pressure," Walz said. "Olivia Cochran and Liz Dixon, you know, aren't going to get a ton of credit or a bunch of praise because everybody likes to look at what people do offensively."

Obviously, they want to try and stop our 3 point shooting, but also I suspect that they think (and perhaps other coaches) that putting pressure on our guards can disrupt our offense and possibly lead to turnovers. When Kianna and Anna are comfortable and in charge, we are very hard to stop.
So the key will be us being able to adapt to Plan B if they do pressure the perimeter. That means Ki, Annna, Lexie, Haley, and even Jump taking it to the rack - over and over again, scoring over and over again (also with some O rebounds and put backs by our bigs), and drawing fouls on Louisville players over and over again. It also means careful passes to our bigs for them to score and wide open back door cuts for scores.
Over playing the perimeter by a D opens up a tremendous number of opportunities and we will need to take advantage. Yes, Brink will have a big game as could Prechtel and/or Belebi, but really the key is penetration by our guards and wings. Some great screens plus getting defenders a step behind or leaning the wrong way and our players can blow by them.
The match up of our D vs their O if they go small is in our favor. Our guards and wings can keep up with their speed, and our length will shut them down. My bet is that Walz has to adjust midway in the game and use his bigs.
I don't underestimate Louisville at all. Like every other team remaining, they are very good. We just need to be tough, energetic, and play our game.

When they have the ball, they have three three point shooters to worry about--two very good ones. So we will need more than Anna to play well on the perimeter today. If we keep them from hitting many threes, then I think our size inside will prevent many layups, and our defense will beat their offense.
