A few thoughts after being away from the board for a bit ...
Beck is an interesting story. He came in having good control and "pitchability" but greatly developed both his high end speed on the fastball and break on his curve ball. I think he hit 97/96 in that last outing - just before the final disaster struck. One usually thinks about things developing the other way 'round. Apparently some scouts saw the improving basic stuff, and that led to his getting drafted higher than anticipated.
Baseball always has uncertainty about how things will develop, but the offense ought to be great next year.
Pitching (as usual) is the uncertainty. Williams returning is brobdingnagian. Some others will have to emerge. I like Matthews' potential more than most here, but he has to throw strikes consistently. Lots of others who may emerge, but some have to actually do so.
I don't know a lot about new pitchers coming in. Sounds like Montgomery could contribute at pitching if that is the direction he wants to go. Anyone know more?
Here is a local paper article on Montgomery. They compare him to Ohtani - but Stanford fans could think if Will Matthiessen (in 2019 6-2 as a starting pitcher and tops on the team in RBI).
