Maryland played better in the 2nd half, but still lost 60-78. Perhaps their defense was made to look bad by the can't-miss shooting of NC State, who was shooting well over 50% for most of the game. Maryland's forward Angel Reese was very strong, and their guard Ashley Owusu was effective although not very efficient. They played their five starters for pretty much the whole game. Maryland did attempt some full court pressure, but NC State was well equipped to deal with it. Will we?
My impression: Maryland simply lacks depth and this was exacerbated by the illness. Not sure we can do to them what NC State did, but this game confirms in my mind that a strong defense can at least keep Maryland's offense somewhat in check, especially without the nation's #1 three point shooter on the floor.
