I think these player absences will make our team psychologically stronger. It is common for a basketball team to mentally fall apart when a key player can't play. Our team has proven that they can win tough games without Jones, or Brink, or Jump, or Wilson, or Lexie, or Belibi. IIRC, all of our starters have missed games this season, but our team found a way win without them. I think the UCLA game was the first in which we were missing two starters. And, they were our two highest scoring players.
I don't think we could have won many of our tougher games and the NC last season without Williams. This season I think we could beat any team while missing any one of our starters, maybe two.

I think the team missed Jones when UCLA went zone. She has the size and ability to dribble into the zone or to flash to the FT line to take a pass and break down the defense. Stanford seemed a bit lost without her at that point. Otherwise, her absence was no big deal against an overmatched and undersized team.
I regretted that Jones was unable to play because it would have been my first chance to watch her play in person. This was the first time Stanford had played at Pauley in front of fans since 2019.
It was also perhaps the last time I will be able to watch Wilson and the Hulls in person and appreciate the relentlessness with which they play the game. It is even more evident in person vs. on tv and sets the tone for the entire team.
Also did you notice Prechtel get the ball in the low post in the 4th quarter? She made a couple of moves and created enough space to get off a shot which came up short. But it certainly appeared to me that it was a part of her game that is weak but which she had been working on in practice.

Agree @martyup. They Hulls played had great games last night. If they play like that, we are pretty much unstoppable. As everyone has mentioned, we are exceptional and deep at post. Much of our success hinges on how our guards play - mostly hitting shots and taking care of the basketball. Lexie poured in the points in the first half. Wow. If she can get consistent with that stroke, lookout. Lacie was all around fantastic. Attacked the basket, tons of great passes, took care of the basketball, made shots, and, as always, great D.

As we move further into February, it seems less and less likely that the postponed games vs UW, Oregon State and Cal will be made up. Is there any benefit to Stanford to playing these games?

Just watching a few games I would play Jones in a low post on offense and get the ball to her. There isn't a player in the league who can guard her down low.

So, my wife and I did very detailed stats for our daughter's HS team for years. We would watch the game tape (and rewind/slo-mo where necessary) to get the stats right. The biggies were steals (which go to the person who causes the ball to come loose, not the one who ends up with it) and assists (did the recipient of pass have to make a hoops move before scoring). Rebounds were easier - who came up with it, unless you could see that Player A intentionally tipped the ball to Teammate B (which is rare for HS girls, or at least was with our team).
But when it came to jump balls, we just punted altogether (per coach's instruction) because the direction of the possession arrow made it completely arbitrary if there was a turnover of possession or not. In retrospect, a 1/2 a steal (for tying the ball up) and 1/2 a TO (for getting tied up) might have been a good way to do it! Or maybe just have separate entires for "tie ups" and "getting tied up."
P.S. I think the official rules are "turnover" if the possession arrow is pointing your way, but we never had to run that one down.

If Jump warmed up with the team, we can assume she was not quarantined or isolated. Maybe she was recovering from being ill and not yet up to playing in a game. Or maybe she had a concussion or something like that, unrelated to COVID.
Isn't it wonderful that the CDC reduced the (minimum) isolation for COVID to just 5 days and then everyone like the NCAA jumped on that as the limit of isolation? And now, a challenge trial, using young adults, shows viable (culturable) virus from nasal swabs of infected subjects to 10 days after symptoms (12 days after inoculation with the virus), whether they were asymptomatic or not. Frankly, I'll be impressed if the CDC follows the science and adjusts their recommendation for isolation. But I'm not holding my breath.

"Turnover" is not in the NCAA playing rules. It is covered by the statistics manual. Basically, if you cause a held ball, then IF the arrow is pointing your way, you get a steal & they get a turnover. Things like time-limit calls (inbounds, closely-guarded, or in-the-lane) are turnovers, but not steals. I think that would be the same for an out-of-bounds call where the officials didn't see who last touched it. If the arrow is pointing to the team that had possession of the ball, then no steal & no turnover.
The one I don't know (and didn't find quickly) is a held ball on a rebound. I would guess no turnover and no steal. The rebound goes to the player & team with the arrow.
