So...out of the eight remaining teams, where would the postseason power rankings place Stanford?
Coaches' Poll:
Stanford 4
A&M 7
Notre Dame 11
Texas 12
Ole Miss 19
Auburn 20
Arkansas 23
Oklahoma 27
Stanford's bracket comprises the number 4, 19, 20, and 23 teams.
The upper bracket comprises the number 7, 11, 12 and 27 teams.
That poll hasn't been updated since before the tournament began ... and of the various rankings out there seems to be the least reliable overall.
The only major ranking I know that has been updated this week is from Collegiate Baseball. They're also not really reliable as they seem to have automatically made the CWS teams the top 8. That's kind of useful in thinking about the relative merits of the final 8 teams, not at all useful in thinking about whether we really learned anything about the limits of the Tennessee team (or any other team that didn't make the CWS).
The have:
#1 Stanford
#2 Texas AM
#3 Arkansas
#4 Oklahoma
#5 Texas
#6 Notre Dame
#7 Auburn
#8 Mississippi
That puts #1, #3, #7 and #8 on Stanford's side of the draw, with first game vs #3.
Collegiate Baseball also has the losers of the Super Regionals ranked #9-#16, with UConn at #16.
However, they also put Texas State at #17.
Collegiate Baseball Ranking
By the way, at Warren Nolan's site he has the live RPIs he has several related rankings.
RPI:
#2 Stanford
#4 Notre Dame
#5 Auburn
#6 Oklahoma
#7 Texas
#8 Texas AM
#19 Mississippi
Also of interest #18 Texas State, #26 UConn, #48 UCSB
ELO-Chess ranking:
#2 Texas AM
#3 Stanford
#4 Notre Dame
#6 Oklahoma
#7 Texas
#8 Mississippi
#10 Auburn
#13 Arkansas
Also of interest: #15 Texas State, #22 UCSB, #29 UConn
Odds of winning CWS (no idea what odds are based upon):
Texas 18.8%
Stanford 15.8%
Notre Dame 14.1%
Mississippi 14.0%
Arkansas 10.9%
Texas AM 9.5%
Auburn 9.4%
Oklahoma 7.4%
