The Stanford offense had some nice plays but overall I was not impressed. Fans focus on the offensive turnovers but I will note that there were very few penalties called against the Stanford offense. Perhaps that’s something to build on but to me it is disappointing that the points still are not coming more easily for a really talented group on that side of the ball. The guys are playing hard and smart but something isn’t working and now we have to wait and see how serious the injury to Smith is.

The defense is awful. The offense is capable of being very good . (McKee did not have a good half. He will have better days).  That’s my take.  But/for a questionable reversal (bottom line, if it takes over 5 minutes to figure it out it is inconclusive, almost by definition) and a fumble inside the 3, (fumbles are a major issue so far) Stanford would have come out of the first half down 7.  They still lose. Cause the couldn’t come close to slowing SC down. But the first half was a bit more competitive than the score indicated. (I can’t comment on second half. Didn’t get opportunity to see it).

Don’t have the slightest idea how many games they will win. Tough to prevail with a lousy defense.  But for all those that wanted a big change in the offense, it’s here.  

Defensively there will be the usual weeping and gnashing of teeth relative to the coaching staff.  And I’m not suggesting changes should not have been made. I am suggesting they would not have mattered. They don’t have the personnel.  Not close.  Can’t scheme your way around a major lack of talent.
