I’m hoping for a lot more over-the-top style lob passes, in addition to our classic backdoor cuts, now that Betts is on the roster this year.

I do think lobs should be a big part of our repertoire, especially since we can put a very tall passer at the elbow--Prechtel etc.

Has anyone ever seen a team that never dribbled the ball to bring it up court, but only passed, similar to what is done by necessity to break the press?   The thought has crossed my mind....

Interestingly, early women's basketball banned dribbling or moving with the ball and thus was essentially a passing game.  This developed into modern "netball" which is still played in a few corners of the world.

I suppose if a player is unopposed when bringing the ball up the court, then anyone could do it.  If on the other hand they are being pressed, then we have always used our break-press tactics and passed out of it. 

But what if our ball carrier is just being harassed by one quick defender?  That is where I wonder if we can start moving the ball upcourt with passes more fluidly rather than relying on a gifted dribbler like Williams to dribble through the pressure.

When pressed, and especially, when double teamed into a trap, the answer is to pass.  When coming up the floor Unharassed, I think dribbling is the right way to go, and safer than passing the ball.  If coming up the court defended but not double teamed, I think it might be good to look to pass, though you have to be careful lest the dribbler pick up their dribble and have trouble finding someone to pass to.

We already try to push the ball upcourt with passes, as well as run quick transition offense, when there's an opportunity. Emphasizing that more would be fine, but there will be times it's not available.

Given the threads we have, I guess that this one is as good as any, but it occurs to me that it might be worth a new thread that is specifc to news about members of the Stanford team this season. If we do that, the mods could move this item to there. Make sense? Or maybe people feel the 2022-23 season thread would cover us on this.

If we do open a new thread, it would be the place where another bit of news could have gone, haven't seen anything on the Cardboard about this, but it was on GoStanford.com, about Cam getting the CalHope Courage Award in Sept, rather a big deal it seems to me.
