Things that will piss weenies off: "There's no place else I'd rather be." "When you say you're from Stanford, no one asks which Stanford."

Though some might mis-hear you and think you said "Samford". :P
Distinctly remember, the summer before freshman year, someone thinking I was going to Connecticut.

Among other interesting things, thought it was notable Taylor answered a question about the Pac-12 by referring vaguely to "wherever that is" with respect to conferences.

With all the turbulence in conference realignment, remaining non-committal is about all you can do.
I thought his statements about doing everything with "love" were a bit over-the-top. I get the sentiment, but maybe "passion" would have been more suitable when describing the rough-and-tumble business of football. That said, press conferences are full of platitudes, so we can't read too much into it. My favorite statement: "We will win championships". Yes, maybe another platitude, but I like the confidence.

Just watched the TT press conference. Extremely impressed. I loved Troy's enthusiasm, articulateness, intellect, and values. He has infectious mental energy, is very well spoken, and thinks quickly on his feet. He radiates genuineness and affection for his players. He really seems to get Stanford and showed me that he really values "creativity" in his play calling and in the hiring of assistant coaches. I look forward to a much more exciting and compelling brand of Stanford football in the near future. I believe Troy is likely to be quite successful in retaining the previous commits and in bringing in some excellent new talent. I think he'll make a powerfully positive impression on recruits, previous commits, and their families. He will represent Stanford with class and conviction and be able to connect well with the young people he meets. I feel even better now about TT as our new fb coach than I did two days ago when I posted I preferred him to Jason Garrett. I think we may have struck gold with this hire. I noticed how on two occasions he said he expected this to be the "final stop" in his coaching career. In short, I think Stanford hired a person with the ability to resurrect this program and make it exciting to go to Cardinal football games once again.

I have been an agnostic on this hire before now, but just watched the press conference. He certainly is loquacious and he says the right things. There were times when he sounded like Walsh ("it's always been about my bliss and not contracts"), times he sounded like Harbaugh ("love never been seen before"), and he had smooth answers--or smooth non-answers--that showed he is already a better giver of press conferences than the last 4-5 coaches. Building relationships with the current team and retaining players and recruits does appear to be his first priority, as it should be. Interesting that he will directly manage the offense and call the plays, but committed to hiring a strong defensive coordinator and "not micromanaging" him.
Time will tell, but not a bad start.

What a stark contrast to Deion's "I'm coming" speech at Colorado.
TT seems like a class act. Makes me want him to succeed, and very happy to hear he isn't leaving a single player out. Would absolutely love to see him retain some/all of the portal guys. If I were a player, I'd stay based on what I've seen so far. :)

Yeah I mean that guy graduated like 4 years ago, probably not a good idea to base the offense around him.
funny.
Free Phogge!!!! And no, crimson doesn't refer to the Tide.

Pretty affable and darn eloquent.
Can he coach in the Pac? No idea.
I like that he seems confident and comfortable in his own skin, and that he cited his time with Whittingham and Petersen as influencing his development as a coach.
Found it kind of fascinating that he said he wants assistants with “no ego.” Seemed like an unscripted moment to me, but perhaps those sentiments will also apply to players? I actually think that would be OK, probably, tho not necessarily how you recruit every five star.

In the channel 2 story on the press conference tonight, the sports anchor called the AD "John Muir."

And I don't think he has any eligibility left!

It's true. His closing pitch to Taylor was:
"The foothills are calling and you must go."
I'd be totally cool with Muir going to Yosemite and, like, staying there.
