The team has to find a way to make other teams pay when the other team is sagging. I don't trust Bosgana's shot. Sometimes her misses are way off - not the sign of a consistent shooter who's "just in a slump". She's just not a great shooter. One thought is to have both of them penetrate more. Get the ball in the paint and either dish low to Cam/Kiki, kick out to Jump/Demetre, hit a midrange, get all the way to the hole, DHO to the other wing.... I do think there's a lot Tara can do here other than just have Lepolo stand there looking around when the defense is not guarding her. Maybe have Kiki/Cam come up and set a low screen on Lepolo's defender? Gotta do something...
I think the answer may be Ogden. She was out last night, but she is such an excellent pure shooter. She is at .333 in game, but she does not clank or miss by much when she misses, and usually swooshes the bottom of the net when she hits. I think she will develop into our next best three point shooter after Jump graduates. And maybe she can really help us this season too. With all the craziness at Gonzaga, that freshman hit 3/6 from long range. Mull that over--the most hostile environment she had every played in, her team falling apart, and she cooly sank 50% of her treys.
Harriel was also out last night, and she is shooting .379 from three point range.
So the missing players were a part of last night's poor three point shooting story. I am beginning to share your concerns about Bosgana, who seems erratic. She also seems to score early on and recedes offensively as games go on. That said, it is hard to argue with Bosgana having improved her defense and coming through with 10 rebounds last night. She is making very important contributions beyond scoring. She has taken up Jones's slack as a rebounder.
By the way, Bosgana got only 9 minutes at Gonzaga, despite the fact that Brink went out and Iriafen had to sit. My conclusion is that it is likely that she was one of the players, in addition to Brink, who had a nasty cold or bug. When we were so short-handed, why else would she sit?
But Ogden and Agara are the true positive stories coming out of Gonzaga. I think Agara continued to do well against Portland. Clardy is an excellent ball handler and shows that she is always an offensive threat to drive. Those three are all going to make significant contributions in Pac 12 play.
