This might be fun and a trip down memory lane for some of you who have followed Stanford Women's Basketball for the whole Tara era.

I found the NCAA statistics site where I could peruse stats that predate those provided online by the Stanford Athletics Department, and for the heck of it I thought I would look to see how many Stanford women there have been who have attempted 100 three point shots and made 40% for a season.  If we did not have anyone that year who accomplished that, I put the best shooter in parentheses.

The answer is:  15 have done it, but it is getting increasingly rare.

During Jennifer Azzi's freshman year there were no three point shots, apparently, or else no stats were kept.  I suspect the three point shot was added in the mid 80s, probably heading into her sophomore year?

I have one question--there was one name that jumped off the stat sheet that I do not remember.  Jamie Carey hit 45.5% her frosh year in 99-00, and then seems to have vanished.  Did she leave the team after that year?

On the history of the 3-point shot, I found an article that says the Pac-10 introduced it in 1986-87. If the women's team didn't have any 3-pointers that season, I suppose it might be that only the men introduced it in 86-87 while the women waited until 87-88. Just guessing there.

One other tidbit.  Those old annual reports also give all the attendance figures.  When Jennifer Azzi was a frosh, total home attendance for Stanford was 5,925.  When she graduated (Stanford's first national championship year), total home attendance was 63,743. 

Last year, for comparison, attendance was 82,263.

Bonnie Samuelson is possibly on track to join the 40/100 club, if she gets enough playing time to make 100 attempts.  So far she is .418 on 55 attempts.
