Jon Wilner's list
did provide a scare when he listed Maryland's athletic director. That might wake me up in the middle of the night murmuring NO NO NO NO NO over and over again.

I don't view it as a stain as much as a complicated note. Stewart wasn't getting the job done and wouldn't ever get the job done; Holgorsen, on the other hand, looks to be a good coach so far. So judged by the standard of where Luck started at and where he's ended up at now, it looks good. On the other hand, as you note, the transition between the two--which is actually much weirder than you've written there--was awkward and a mistake. Luck
should've just fired Stewart. Instead, he brought Holgorsen on as a coach-in-waiting (before accelerating the process considerably.) That was a mistake, and it's hard to imagine Luck hasn't learned from that experience.
If that were Luck's only sports experience I'd be a bit more wary. But he was also the GM of the Houston Dynamo before the AD position at WVU. That was uniformly excellent, as the team won two MLS championships; whenever something goes wrong with that team, invariably Houston fans demand (in joke, since they know he's not coming back) that Luck be brought back.
So I see Luck's resume as overall a very good one. I'd be surprised if Luck were brought in because WVU is his alma mater. If, however, he were brought in, I think it'd be an excellent hire.
