Well, this is a game I did not see. While I hate the Friday-Sunday schedule that TV forced the women to adopt, I did not notice that they switched it back to Thursday-Saturday for this weekend. Still, last night I flipped onto the Pac-12 channel and saw the schedule information "WBB: Stanford at Washington" and thought "thank goodness I happened on this!" But Pac 12 was bringing a repeat of the Rose Bowl at that point--even though their scheduling information said the WBB should have been on. I just assumed that the Pac 12 schedule was incorrect as it often is. But it looks like the schedule was correct and it was the programming that was incorrect.
From the news stories and box scores this was more like an exhibition game. McGuff had benched a couple of his best players for rules violations. Even so, apparently Washington led 9-3 in the early going. Any team with Kristi Kingma is going to put up a fight.
In looking over the boxscore I see Chiney with another double double. The news stories indicate that Bonnie broke the game open with flawless three point shooting early on, but that she cooled off and wound up 5/15 from three. Also notable, Amber had 12 points and 4 assists, Joslyn had 12 points, and Ruef had 6 assists. Overall we had 18 assists on 30 made baskets, and only 7 turnovers. Even those 7 turnovers look better when you consider that 4 of them were by Ruef, who probably made them while amassing those 6 assists.
I was a bit surprised to see that the subs did not get even more minutes. Sara's minutes are dwindling--although she started, she was down to 11 minutes in this blowout. Bonnie and Taylor each had more than 20 minutes, Jasmine had 10, but Tess and Erica had less than 5 minutes each. It looks to me that the tournament roster has three starters (Chiney, Amber, and Joslyn) with five (Ruef, Greenfield, Samuelson, James and Camp) basically splitting the remaining 80 minutes of time.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who saw the game. Was it in fact on the Pac12 network at some point?
