My has this thread gotten off topic.
I was in Donner freshman year and we were told we had set the highest cost for damages to a dorm either for that year or ever. We kept breaking the light covers with frisbees, soccer balls, volleyballs, tennis balls, etc.
As a frosh, I lived in the gigantic dorm on the SCU campus. During the first week of school, kids pulled the fire alarm twice, costing the university a bundle when the fire dept had to come out and check and make sure everything was all right and not just some idiot 18 year old drunk and away from home the first time. After the second pull, we were lectured to by the various RA's that the next time the alarm got pulled, the kid's family would have to bear the cost, something like a semester's tuition.Â
Enter our favorite game "Destruction Frisbee." In the early 1980s, video entertainment was quite limited, and we discovered that various Frisbees would bounce remarkably well off of the floors, ceilings and walls of the narrow frosh dorm corridors. You had to exercise a degree of restraint while the RA was in the vicinity, but once he was gone, the air would fill with Frisbees as we essentially played dodgeball with the Frisbees, hurled at full strength from a distance of about sixty feet...usually, there were3-6 Frisbees in the air at any given moment. One fateful night, I threw a Frisbee that bounced of the floor, ceiling and a wall, narrowly missing a student, but hitting the fire alarm (from about 135 feet, we later measured). Alarm goes off, everyone runs outside. I didn't realize that it was my little Frisbee, until the RA mentioned that it happened at the opposite end of my floor. Oops...
