To get myself as geared up for this game as possible, I watched the 2009 Oregon at Stanford game on YouTube last night.Â
I couldn't help but notice how successful Stanford was running the ball, primarily out of the Ace formation and with Luck in the shotgun. Dray and Fleener were the primary TEs, and though Marecic certainly played, it wasn't as much as I thought I would remember.
And OMG, was Luck's release off the charts awesome compared to Hogan's! But I digress...
To me, the best thing Stanford can do to help its offense is to line up Devon Cajuste at TE several plays during the game. In particular, I'd like to see this play:
Ace formation - Rector, Young, Montgomery at WR, Sanders at RB, and Cajuste at TE next to RT. Hogan in shotgun.
Young goes in motion from left to right slot.Â
Rector runs a go to clear the left side of the field.
Cajuste cut blocks the OLB, gets up and runs to the area vacated by Young and Rector.
Montgomery blocks the RCB.
Hogan first runs this play and hands off to Sanders, and maybe the Ducks stop it for little or no gain.Â
They run it again and this time, Cajuste fakes the cut block, gets up, and runs to the field vacated by Young, Rector and the Oregon defense.
Hogan fakes a handoff to Young, Sanders runs into the left flat, Hogan bootlegs to his left, and hits an all by himself Cajuste for a brobdingnagian gain.
Anyone have a particular play they want to see from Stanford's offense tonight?
