That Harbaugh and Luck will leave this year? TV commentators and fans of other teams seem to think so. Does Harbaugh\'s tenure hinge on Lucks?

I think it\'s unlikely Harbaugh will leave this year. I mean, why would he? He\'s got the #12 football team in the country. I just don\'t see him leaving for another college job. He\'s already had all the glory as a player, he has plenty of money. He\'s not like other coaches who need to get the glory by getting the bigger job. The only college job I could see him leaving for would be Michigan, and I don\'t think it\'s a given that he even wants that job. Also, I don\'t think Rodriguez is going to get fired this year. Harbaugh has a good thing going, and I think he realizes that. He\'s getting lots of press. He\'s the man right now. I also think he wants to coach Stanford-type players.

However, the more Luck and the O look like cool calm winners, the better it is for JH.

Staying in school to get that degree is likely not the deal. Â The deal would be that he could improve his chances of actually winning in the NFL with another year of Pac-10 experience. Â He could also get hurt, so this degree and experience stuff must be considered against a meaningful risk of injury.

I saw him say that he feels he needs to get the degree in an interview when asked about leaving. He just threw away the possibility and was like, "No, I have to get a degree." Then I heard some rumor that his dad told tailgaters that Luck has to leave if he\'s a top 5 pick.
I think another incentive to stay has to be "college greatness". I mean, they would have a crack at the national title if he comes back. And, he\'ll have a real shot at the Voldemort too. I like to think he\'s coming back.

If Luck is a top-5 pick, I would encourage him to leave. I do think that would be the best decision for him given that he can always finish his degree later. My advice for him would be to stay with good insurance.
1) His sister is at Stanford (on the volleyball team)
2) He\'s having fun in college and going back later will not capture that fun and experience...pros can wait a year or two
3) He is a good student and, I think, smart enough to want to have life post-football (remember John Frank?)
4) The mess that is the NFL now is a deterrent
5) I think, unlike Locker, he will only get better and he and JH have a mission...he still needs some work

The list is great, but all it will take is one missed RB block or one horsecollar tackle. Â #2 and #4 are likely in play but one missed assignment could ruin #2 in a hurry.

As the sfgate.com article points out, Harbaugh and his wife are expecting their second child together.
I think this could potentially be a reason to stay, if it\'s not a slam-dunk decision to chase after NFL dollars or a higher-profile college job.
