Standing with a bunch of Bootleg people near the south end of the Rose Bowl vs . Wisconsin I.  I asked one of the more connected  Bay Area based if he'd ever met or seen Longwinded.  Why, yes, he had.  Had been at that very tailgaiter.  And pointing across a few rows of parked cars he pointed to a guy making his way back from the portapotties,  he said  "That's him".  So I set out on an intercept course and sticking out my hand to introduce myself, addressed him as I got close.  "Excuse me, you're the person who posts under the name Longwinded on the Bootleg, aren't you?"    You'da thunk he figured me for a mugger.  His eyes started darting around and he really never broke stride. "Uh....yes."  He picked up his walking pace and began zig-zagging through the rows of parked cars.  Never came back to the tailgater.    Of course, the Bootleg was more of a wild west frontier town thingee back then, so maybe he had reasons to run I didn't know about.

I still subscribe to the Premium Bootleg. Have since it's inception (likewise the Cardboard)  You can get information there that wasn't available elsewhere.  But after a lot of post-2007 mellowing, of late the board angst and vibe  resembles 2006 or  pre-Rose Bowl His Royal Ungratefulness days more and more.

Wasn't that around the time of LW's infamous "he's not young he's bad" post, in which he trashed a good many Stanford players? Perhaps he thought you were an irate parent (I heard there were some).

I want to be clear that it wasn't the veterans of the Bootleg that ruined it for me.  It was the newcomers.  There was an influx around the time of the Fiesta Bowl, as if some folks needed Stanford to get to two BCS bowls before they would become fans.  Perhaps it's not surprising that these guys often sound like the bad fans that they are.

It seems that the requirements for discussion declined.  You didn't have to offer any evidence for your point of view.  This meant that you could have a 40 post thread in which 35 of the post were some variation of "No s---."  You could read one of those posts and know nothing that you didn't know when you began.

The etiquette declined, too.  The ops threw out the worst offender but set such a high bar for outrage than everyone else appeared measured and polite by comparison.  I recall vividly that I used to hover my cursor over a thread and start to feel my stomach tighten as I tried to decide, "Should I really click on this?"  When I started experiencing that every day for a week, I decided it was time to go. 

Again, the man in Stanford recruiting is Andy D.  He's an Oregon grad but seems to like us quite a bit.  And no one has ever been better at elicting the information we need to decide, "Is he coming or isn't he?"

Burkett is an interesting case.  He's the least stealthy stealth in recent memory.  Historically most stealths commit when they get their admissions offer, as it is uncertainty about their admissions prospects that prompts them to commit elsewhere, but Burkett has been admitted.  Moreover, he was part of the Vandy class that epically collapsed when Franklin went to Penn State.  OTOH, it would be awkward if Stanford poached a recruit from Mason (who I think said publicly that he wouldn't go after Stanford recruits, not that there is all that much worry that someone will decomit from Stanford to go to Vandy), even though the process had started long before Mason was hired.

My guess is that we take 3 of 4; Tucker and Thomas, and one of Alexander (if he is admitted) or Burkett.  Decent likelihood of a sweep; I think it is unlikely we wind up with fewer than 2.
