In a general way, I don't buy into the belief we are ennobled by dangerous opponents.  They are losing so much talent that maybe having Shaq around wouldn't have helped them, but since he's going, I say, good luck and have a good trip.

The Huskies lose All Pac 12 DL Danny Shelton and All American DL/DE Ha'oli Kikaha, plus All American LB Shaq Thompson, and second team (I think) all Pac 12 CB Marcus Peters, plus the two Hudsons on the DL--one HM all conference--and HM LB John Timu, a three-year starter iirc.  Looks brutal for them.

Interestingly, this year the huskies started almost all frost and sophomores in the backfield.  Next year, they will have an almost all new front 7.

Thompson is one of the guys who decommitted from kal when Tosh Lupoi left. He said he felt he would get a better education at Washington. That wasn't all that unreasonable given kal's football APR and graduation rates. However, now he's leaving school without a degree....

Low APR doesn't mean the education at an institution is necessarily bad, just that the athletes are not taking advantage of whatever is available to them.  I'm not sure where Washington stands in relation to Cal in terms of academics, but it really comes down to what Shaq wanted to put into his education.

We still will have to face guys like those, of course.  But they'll be in UCLA, Cal, and Oregon uniforms now.

But watching that game against OKST was infuriating, how many times did he punt on 4th and short from the middle of the field? At least two. WIM, you are absolutely right, of course.  But it turns out that if you are trying to maximize your chance of winning, you should go for the higher beta (I'm using beta in the financial sense, to mean risk) strategy with an inferior team, and the lower beta strategy with superior teams.
