Giants roster is resilient, given all the injuries this year, and with Dickerson and Mikey Yaz reverting to their AAAA norms. It sure would be nice to see the bullpen do its job more than once in a blue moon.
Is it possible to hold one's breath for a month? This week with ATL and LA will tell us a lot.

You're right. My perspective is always clouded by looking at the Dodger roster which reminds me of the old Steinbrenner Yankees, ie best team money can buy, and so easy to hate.

Logan Webb is a revelation. Very good AND getting better. He's their best pitcher , starter or reliever, right now.

I think Ruf (like Posey, Crawford, Belt, Solano, Flores, Longoria and others) has really responded to the batting coaches.
Along those lines, I've been meaning to post for a while now about Kevin Pillar. Saw him play for the Mets as a 4th outfielder, he went 0 for 2 with an HBP playing in one of the three Mets losses to the Giants. I've been thinking about how close he came (maybe not that close) to re-signing with the Giants for about $10 million (he had made $5.8 mms. with the Giants in 2019), and it wasn't popular with anyone that an early Farhan decision was to turn away Pillar -- now paid in the $3.6 million range. He made $4.25 mms. splitting the year with the Red Sox and Rockies and a .798 OPS.
His current line with the Mets is .206/.245/.363/.609. And, a bit like his time with SFG, he has 10 HRs in 261 ABs to go with his 64 strikeouts. I do wonder, however, whether the Giants' crack batting coaches could have worked the magic on Pillar that they have on -- well, basically everyone else. And if nothing else, I appreciate Pillar's walk-up music -- Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls."

Pillar made 2019 fun in spurts. Got it that he isn't a darling of the sabremetric guys on the board. Screw stats, just play hard.

Brutal 7 game home stand coming. Giants get 4 with Milwaukee. Face Burnes and Woodruff (not to mention the back end of the Brewers bullpen, which is probably the best in baseball.) Then 3 with Dodgers - Buehler, Urias and Scherzer.
Giants are going to have to get good pitching. Cause those are 5 of the leagues best starters. Including probably the two best - Burnes and Buehler.

Niners crunched the Raiders today, 34-10. A few observations.
1) Niner defense is incredible, both last game and this game. And they're not even playing Bosa, Ford and Warner. The rookies look really good. Yikes...
2) I've been thinking the same thing about Trey Lance that I thought about John Elway, which is...if his college receivers could catch him, why are NFL receivers dropping his passes? It's worse for Lance, he only had BCS subdivision receivers to work with. Why won't they catch his passes?
3) Similar to two years ago, the Niners have a great defense and running game. Special teams, I think will be really good once the rust has been knocked off. Elijah Mitchell might be a find -- had a 45 yard kickoff return. Niners averaged 9.5 yards per punt return. Wishnowsky had a 75 yard punt. But the passing game is still...disappointingly average. The only thing I learned from today’s game is that Gruden doesn’t bother making any kind of an effort to field a competitive team for the exhibition games.

SF will miss Scherzer. He is scheduled to pitch Wednesday v. Atlanta.

4) My general sense is that the NFL game has passed Jon Gruden by and left him in the dust.
I take nothing from pre-season.
The only thing I learned from today’s game is that Gruden doesn’t bother making any kind of an effort to field a competitive team for the exhibition games.

Given these brobdingnagian hurdles, how well do you think the Giants will do in those upcoming seven home games? BTW, Giants are 2-1 against the Brewers at Milwaukee, and 8-8 against the Dodgers. And also, of the remaining 32 games, 20 are at home -- where the Giants are 42-19. In fact, if we project the W/L percentage of home and away games on those remaining 32 games, they'd go 22-10 which would mean the Gigantes would finish 106-56.
Also want to point out that the Giants were so consistent over the season, that if their worst monthly record were spread out over a full season, it would mean a 97 win season.

I don't think the Giants finish with 106-56 record, but I hope they do, as that might do the trick for winning the division.
