Renewal Deadline, Stanford Football, tomorrow 5/13!

I am torn. On the one hand, we now have the seats I always wanted - Sec. 116 on the 115 side (around the 10 or 15 yard-line, but as close to midfield as you can get without a big donation); and a high row so we have perspective and we're in the shade quickly in the afternoon. On the other hand, it's $1K for the three of us, and with our team looking as it does, I don't think these tix will be hard to get! 

Maybe I should hedge and downgrade back to the Family Plan?  Or "sleep" and "end the heart-ache"?

I struggled with the same question but renewed my four seats. I should have dropped two of them as they are hard to find takers/sell.

If your WHOLE group doesn’t mind squatting in random seats, it doesn’t make sense financially to have season seats.

I got a call from Stanford about 3 weeks ago reminding me to renew. I told the agent that I was planning to renew but that didn't mean that I was happy with the product and that I know a few people who are not renewing because of this reason.

We spoke for a good 15 minutes, mainly me complaining that the team stayed put despite being blown out in the last few games of the year, that we need an OC, and the agent just nodding to everything I said.

Today I renewed and the same agent, not knowing that I renewed, called me again to remind me about the deadline. I told him that his call came an hour late since I already renewed, but was still not happy that there were no changes... That I don't want to hear gums yapping, I want to see change on the field. He told me that he trusts that there will be significant changes based on what he has heard from others at DAPER. We ended the call with me telling him that I hope so because it is getting harder to renew with such a boring product on the field.

I renewed pretty much the first day it was available — and I am moving out of state but will fly in for a few games per season and sell the rest to interested parties.

you won't have to wait until late in the season, I'm pretty sure the Colgate game will have poor attendance (especially with my expectation of an 8pm PT kick-off), from our group I'd estimate at most 4 or 20 people (who now have only 16 tix between them) will attend that game....

3 more 4-win seasons would be a no-brainer.  But 1 or 2 would be an interesting over-under proposition.  I think both Muir and Shaw are in the well-paid comfort zone of "neither wanting nor needing to" rock the boat.  Spine is not really a consideration.  And in what universe would Muir be the sole decision-maker anyway?

Those two need to convince me that is worth spending $100s of dollars per seat (when the non-deductible) contributions are factored in. Last year seats were available in my section for $25 per game on Stubhub. I suspect they will be cheaper this season.

Last time I didn't renew was after the 2005 season. Took awhile but the program took off to levels not even I could have imagined including two Rose Bowls wins and the epic AL win over SC in the Coliseum. So I am grateful for all of that but I don't like supporting a program where I feel more invested than some of the people running it.

Here's why: the ham-handed losses sustained after the 2018 scoop-and-score Oregon game (despite the Sun Bowl win), combined with mis-managed recruitment when the process was changing, plus the dog-vomit 2019 season and the disaster of post-pandemic (mostly) 2021 was the prelude to the utter hopelessness we're looking at today compared to 2007 when we got an epic infusion of hope for the football program. Today there is no such hope. It's in shorter supply than baby formula. We're stuck with Weekends at Bernie's for the duration of Shaw: several more years of trials and tribulations. Don't bask in marginal superiority over BuddyWlat-ism. It's a low bar.

It’s done.  I renewed.  Thank you, Snorlax and others, for the reassurance.  It may be irrational economically, but that does not mean it must not be done.

I renewed as well, but moved our group to a section without the PSL/gift.  Too many alums that I buy for were going to leave altogether if we stayed in the more expensive seats.  I think the fallout will be big this year.   If the 3-4 win trajectory continues, the stadium will become even more of a cavern.  I still can't believe there were zero changes to the staff last year.   The seats for some in the AD should be very hot by now.   To have both football and basketball in the doldrums is not a good sign.
