While the press conference was fine, I'm kind of aghast at how bad the rollout online has been of Coach Taylor, particularly on Twitter where CFB recruiting lives. CTT's Twitter account isn't even updated, for crying out loud. No clips from the conference on the football handle (some stills, but no video). We can complain and whine about our structural challenges in recruiting and promoting the program, but there's no excuse for failing to crush the simple stuff. Hope a new football SID is part of the house cleaning - we need to up our game badly.

I'll second this. Take a look at a random college coach's Twitter account and check out the replies. A coach could tweet what he ate for breakfast and he'll receive a thousand replies from high school players with a clip of their Hudl highlights, class year, position, height, weight and GPA. It's crazy.

I'll second this. Take a look at a random college coach's Twitter account and check out the replies. A coach could tweet what he ate for breakfast and he'll receive a thousand replies from high school players with a clip of their Hudl highlights, class year, position, height, weight and GPA. Things got worse when we bluesheeted a 60 Minutes McCaffery profile piece in 2016. Jeff Fager approved and let us know that the story would lead the first show of the 2016 Fall season. A very big deal for Stanford Athletics. We were turned down. Unbelievable.

IMO from 55 years shooting a ton of important stories and films it was an incredible mistake by your school, evidence of a cocoon wrapped around your program.

Bob Murphy helped Plunkett get the Voldemort (albeit ancient history). Why were there not full court presses with Toby, Luck etc? Were the Bay Area press not cajoled to vote for Gearhart? How could an SID face the world when Barry Tompkins announced that he voted for Ingram?

You know that I can’t do that. Alan Weisman was going to be the producer. I probably was his DP on 60 or 70 projects over the years. Best they ever had, IMO. The Gleason piece, the F20 fiasco, a bunch of Morley stories. Then Lillehammer profiles, Street Stories, SI 40 year anniversary, World Ventriloquist Convention, NAPTE, had four or five stories as the lead piece of a new season on the show. THE prime spot of the year. We were working on a Baffert/Justify story that would have been spectacular had not Charlie Rose “revealed” himself and then Alan had the temerity to pass away. Loved him like a brother.

As far as I know perhaps McCaffery didn’t want to do it. I always suspected that Shaw thought it would be a distraction. And when you come right down to it how many recruits watch 60 Minutes?
