Not sure how true it is. And I think ESPN would definitely trigger that extension rather than lose schools to a non ESPN league. But if true it makes our jump over to ACC an even bigger leap of faith than we had initially presumed.

I think their endgame is hope to get some sort of ruling that mitigates the very large leaving penalty to the point where it could be financially viable to jump. From what I can tell that seems pretty unlikely, so maybe this is just bluster to try and force more unequal revenue shares or something. Maybe they feel forced by their fans to do something after getting jumped in playoffs, even if it will amount to nothing.

However, I do not agree that our jump to the ACC was a leap of faith. It was a desperate jump to our only remaining option with any real hope to stay relevant in many top national sports. It is to the amazing scrambling capability and credit of Condi Rice and others, that gave us even this last remaining option. Otherwise we'd be in the same boat as OSU/WSU, which, setting aside the thoughts about the future of football, can it even be fathomed the decimation that would have caused to numerous of our top teams of soccer, volleyball, swimming, basketball (women's at least, men's remains on a hopeless treadmill regardless), baseball, softball, etc? And as regards to football itself, I would not have been surprised if a lack of joining a Power 5 (now 4) conference would have led to the decommit of more recruits, lack of return of any seniors, more transfer portal departures of key players, and the departure of Coach TT and other of his staff right after this past season ended.
