Pretty good day today. 8-2 win, Stanford's Tristan Beck pitched two innings, no runs allowed. Drew Gilbert, just 24 and arrived from the New York Mets had four hits today and three yesterday, he's batting .261 with six extra base hits in 12 hits overall. Gilbert was a first round selection in the 2022 draft, was traded from the Astros to the Mets (with others) for Verlander. We got him with Butto and Tidwell for Tyler Rogers, and he went 7 for 14 in Sacto. He homered, as did Adames and Gilbert.
They're still not a great home run hitting team...even after the recent power surge, they're #20 in MLB in both HRs and runs scored. At least they're fifth in triples. And -- odd stat -- they have been caught stealing the third fewest times in MLB (19). Not so odd stat, they've stolen the second fewest bases in MLB (63).

The consecutive HR string noted above must be an SF record because the Giants hit HRs in 19 consecutive games in 1947. Regardless, it is great to see them finally hitting at the level that was expected after the Devers trade.

I think Sacto would have to win the second half of the PCL-West. They're three games out.
Richmond finished last in the first half, but they're just 2.5 back in the second half in the Eastern League Southwest.
High-A, Eugene is in first place in the 2nd half by 8 games.
Low-A San Jose is in first place by 1/2 a game.
All four teams are in first or second place in the second half.

Baseball America has the Giants farm system # 16 overall. Better than the past few years
Nice win last night, 7-4. Three things stood out:
1) Rafi Devers, Wilmer Flores, Casey Schmitt and Patrick Bailey homered. 16th game in a row that SFG has homered, tying the 1962 and 1963 San Francisco Giants for longest streak of HR games in a row. They have one more game in Denver tonight and may break that streak. Giants now 20th in MLB for HRs on the season with 147.
2) Devers was the second batter of the game when he hit his HR, and Colorado pitcher Freeland came unglued. Donnybrook ensues, SF''s next two batters (Chapman and Adames) come on the field and shove and punch Freeland. All three are kicked out. So Devers moves to third base (first time for SF), Koss moves to shortstop (first time for SF, but SS is his natural position), Schmitt moves to second base (he was injured when he was HBP the day before, but...needed), and Dom Smith moves to 1B. The makeshift infield turned two double plays. Nice.
Smith and Schmitt went 2 for 5, and Koss went 1 for 4.

Furman is 24 years old with only 13 games of experience above the A level prior to this season. His chances of making the 40 man are remote. He appears to be a career minor leaguer.

Speaking of HR streaks by the Giants, of the seven streaks of 15+ in franchise history, the 1947 team had three separate streaks, 15, 16, and 19. That club hit 221 HRs led by Johnny Mize’s 51. Heck, even the Pride of Alameda, Bill Rigney, hit 17 (a career high). To put the 221 figure in perspective, only one other team in the majors hit more than 115 (Pittsburgh 165).

Heck, even the Pride of Alameda, Bill Rigney, hit 17 (a career high). To put the 221 figure in perspective, only one other team in the majors hit more than 115 (Pittsburgh 165).
I'm not following, the Braves and the Twinkies are tied with the most at 307 dingers in a season. . ..

17 straight, thanks to Chapman. Two more to tie the all-time club record. The 2019 Yankees connected for an HR 31 games in a row. National league record is held by the Cardinals at 25 games in 2016. I think the Padres hit 25 in a row earlier that season as well.
The 1947 Giants was an amazing team. Willard Marshall had 36 HRs, Walker Cooper had 35, Bobby Thomson had 29. Second most Thomson ever had, best year of Marshall's, Rigney's, Cooper's, Lohrke's and Mize's career. Pitcher Clint Hartung hit four home runs (along with three triples and four doubles). Lloyd Gearhart was the main back up. He played 13 years of baseball, but it was the only year he played in the bigs.
