I heard Kyle use the well-worn “deer in the headlights” excuse in his post-game press conference. Sorry, I’m not buying it. How can a team have a deer-headlights reaction after playing 13 games and against a team that is not physically dominant AND lacks its best player? Come on! We stunk it up and did not work to set up good shots. 23% from the field!!!!! Another factor could be our typically marshmallow-laden pre-conference schedule.

I haven't heard his press conference yet, but that doesn't sound like he's making an excuse. Sounds like he is calling it like he sees it. Unless he is commenting on the actual lighting at Maples :)

I could see how the soft non-conference schedule you mentioned might contribute to a deer in the headlights situation.

ND seemed bigger, faster, stronger than most if not all of the non-conf opponents, with maybe the exception of Helmbrodt from Seattle U (the guy who blocked 7 LSJU shots!)

Okorie beat his defender on the dribble a number of times, only to be immediately confronted by an even bigger and longer-armed help defender. That didn't happen a lot with the non-conf opponents.

Did anyone else see Calif gubernatorial candidate and LSJU GSB alum, Tom Steyer, sitting courtside? we were a few rows up, in the re-purposed student section. I didn't know he was a MBB fan.

It's too bad that Raynaud wasn't a year younger or Okorie isn't a year older, we could have used the 1-2 combo.

Hopefully, Smith can keep Okorie and we can potentially get a formidable duo next season with Olajuwon coming in.

Last night was disappointing but I'm just hoping the team can bounce back and the coaching staff can get the offense going; if Smith can get solid recruiting classes and/or key transfers, then we can be at least a respectable program again

Like I said above, the spacing last night was abysmal.  I was hoping for a second-half adjustment, but nothing changed.

I was curious if our 26.8% effective FG% last night was the worst ever for the team, and it's not!  In 2011, we had efg% of 24.6% in a drubbing at USC.

If you're an optimist, you're hoping it'll be 15 more years before we reach this low again.  If you're a pessimist, with our upcoming schedule, it might not even be 15 more days...

Poor spacing, poor shooting and completely dominated on the boards - it was not a fun game to watch at Maples.  I was hopeful given the preseason, but what I saw in this game was a team that had trouble in the paint and with physical opposing players. ND is not Duke or Louisville so this season will get ugly if they don't start to get more aggressive.  Kyle and the staff need to wake them up and Rev needs to push them to be relentless on the boards.  Now or never...they brought some good intensity for about 5 minutes of the second half when we came back to within 4 points of the lead.  I miss the Monty days with Maples rocking!
