I only saw the last four minutes, but during that span Jeremy Dent-Smith was Stanford's MCP (most clutch player).
His steal with just over three minutes left really killed any momentum that Louisville seemed to be generating, and his inbound passes did the job against. Even when he got schooled in the post (against a significantly taller player), he avoided fouling, which would have been pretty easy to do against this set of refs, from what little I saw of the game.
I'm sure Okorie was the hero over 40 minutes, but JDS played really, really well when it mattered most.

During the Notre Dame game they showed an interview with Micah Shrewsberry and he said there was no Christmas in his house because of the IPFW home loss. We certainly didn't do ourselves any favors but Notre Dame was absolutely berserk on defense. In a way, it's a shame Notre Dame lost to IPFW because if Notre Dame had beaten IPFW, Stanford wouldn't have had to play the Notre Dame team that lost to IPFW.
By the same token, it's a shame Stanford lost to Notre Dame because if Stanford had beaten Notre Dame, Louisville wouldn't have had to play the Stanford team that lost to Notre Dame.

Team win for sure. But Okorie went 28-3-3 with ZERO turnovers despite being relentlessly hounded (including a few uncalled fouls) by Louisville's defense. Oh, and he played 38 minutes, too. I don't recall him sitting in the second half.
That's the second time this season he's scored 28+ with zero turnovers.
I think it's safe to say we're witnessing one of the top few (maybe very few) individual seasons in program history.

Yes, per Burger, much better spacing than on Tuesday v ND, and Okorie beat his defender and voila, had a clearer path to the basket. LSJU shot only 19 threes and made 9 (compared to 4 for 30 vs ND).
Agarwal 4 for 4 on threes, and Louisville's Conwell was just 2 of 14 on threes, so a special night in multiple ways.
Nice alumni homecoming event too - I think I recognized Art Lee and Greg Butler and Vlahov.
Enjoy the amazing Okorie while we can. It'll take a small miracle to keep him from going to the NBA next year, or staying in college but heading back east for a gigantic NIL sum to somewhere like UConn or Nova or St Johns?

I believe that was the first home win over a ranked team since Arizona in December, 2023.
Highlight games have been few and far between for the Stanford men. It was a lot of fun watching Stanford execute well at the end of a game instead of snatching defeat from the gaping jaws of victory. All right now!!

It would have been a different game with Brown in their lineup.
Yes, we played good defense but nobody could have contained Brown -- points and assists, fast break conversions.
We get the win on a ranked for in the ACC -- useful. But, their ranking is tied to Brown.

What a win!
Ebuka played with attitude for 38 minutes. He led, carried, and willed his team to victory. But, at the same time, everyone in the rotatation made solid, and crucial, contributions to a team victory.
In the backcourt, along with Ebuka, Benny, Jeremy and Ryan mostly made good decisions regarding shot selection, when to move the ball around the perimeter, and when to drive to the hoop, and when to dish it to one of the big guys. There were still too many late-in-the-shot-clock prayers, but even some of those (Ryan from Steph territory!) were answered. And it would have been nice to get more assists (Ebuka had 3, the others had none), but between the 4 of them, there were only 2 turnovers. They played aggressive perimeter defense, resulting in 4 steals, and a season low 6 3s (on 27 attempts) for Louisville. The Cardinals were definitely hurt by Brown's absence, but Stanford took advantage of it - unlike Cal.
Stanford got the good Chisom for 30 minutes instead of 3. Like the backcourt group, he made good decisions regarding shooting, driving, and dishing - getting 2 of the 6 assists. He still had 4 turnovers, but his 2 steals, 2 blocks, team-high 8 rebounds (and a thunderous dunk) more than made up for that. And I thought a key to the game was inserting Oskar into the starting line-up. His stat line was nothing special, but he went head-to-head with Sananda Fru, the bigger, stronger, older 4-year German Bundesliga veteran. Oskar got beat at times, but generally held his own. And at times, he looked like the grizzled vet. Aidan and AJ were effective coming off the bench for shorter stints. I thought they were 2 of the most obvious "deer-in-the-headlights" guys vs. UND. But they were aggressive at both ends yesterday. AJ was assertive under the basket. Even when he didn't score, he made the defense pay attention to him, which opened up the offense for everyone else. And I didn't mind Aidan fouling out - I think he's often too passive, but not yesterday.
Donavin is still shaking the rust off, but I'm hopeful that he can still become a key contributor.
I checked out a Louisville message board - along with lamenting Brown's injury (some seem to think he's staying out longer than necessary to protect his draft status), they were skewering coach Pat Kelsey for bringing in shooters through the transfer portal, but not enough bangers. They compared Stanford's "bullying" of Louisville's big men to that of Arkansas & Tennessee in the Cardinals' other 2 losses. Gotta love that!
Players win games. but this game reinforced to me the job that Smith & company are doing. I would have loved to have been around them and the team form the end of the UND game through the preparation for Louisville. Whatever was done, they were not going to allow for the 0-6 (or worse) tailspin that I envisioned. They have not had 2 consecutive home losses since arriving at Stanford. That will surely be tested when UNC & Duke come to Maples. But as I've said before, "In Kyle I trust".
It doesn't get any easier next week with the trip to VaTech & UVa. But maybe this stretch of 5 Quad 1 games in a row is just what we need. After the Louisville win, Stanford is now 2-0 in Quad 1 games.

Now for the first of four cross country treks. The UVa arena is large, holds ~ 15 K fans for basketball. Not sure if LSJU has ever played there?
I saw that Seattle U. lost in OT to #7 Gonzaga. So that LSJU loss to Seattle is aging well so far.

As dismally as we played against ND, kudos and congrats to Kyle and the players for the quick turnaround and well played game against UL. I too was impressed with the play of Jeremy Dent-Smith in crunch time. Okorie has real talent. Will he show that he cares about education and stay or will he be seduced by big NIL bucks offered by a powerhouse?
I continue to be very impressed with Kyle Smith. We've got a real winner there. Things look bright for the men's basketball team's future.
