RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - SkiBum80 - 01-24-2026

I’d like to revise my statement about revising statements about not winning another game.

Really momentum-heavy game so far... c'mon Bears!

The woof gods do not accept apologies. Also, see my previous comment about losing our second leading scorer.

For the folks saying we unlikely to win another game due to losing Okpara, with us up 24-11 at this point, are you holding to that or care to make any revisions?

Since this sentence was typed, Cal has outscored Stanford 35-12.

I heard woofing gods gave us a pass when ALuck in the house ?
Rohosy had a 6 inch layup
Unfortunately only shot it 4 inches
The woof gods are relentless and unforgiving.

For all this talk about woofing, losing your second leading scorer is likely more significant.
Okorie now 1-11 from the field. I’m guessing that’s what the woofing gods are looking at.

1-15 now. yikes.

Can't believe Okorie will be the reason y'all lose this game. Would've predicted he would be the reason you guys win. Great game so far

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - Card10Fan - 01-24-2026

If Okorie has an average game even making 1/3 of his shots. We would win this game. I guess live and die by that when so dependent on one person playing well. Hate losing to Cal.  Especially at home. Puke

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - Gary86 - 01-24-2026

That was a cacophony of clanks with very little sweet string music.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - old spanish trail - 01-24-2026

Okorie had a bad Curry game, and like the Dubs, the Card lost. Dent-Smith, Agarwal and Kamman played well enuf to win, Giltay had a couple moments, and Young looked a little more like his old self.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - BostonCard - 01-24-2026

The final line: 1/16, 0/9 from 3, yet still 14 points after going 12/14 from the line.  And no, had he gone 5/16, 3/9, we would have been 1 point short (and probably more, since we might not have gotten quite as many offensive boards).

Stanford led 16-9 on offense boards yet Cal has more second chance points. Our O-boards did not lead to much offense.

I choose to believe if Okorie would have hit a 3 or back to back buckets during the middle stretch of the 2nd half when the game was tied, Maples would have exploded. Energy and momentum would have been on Stanford’s side. Oh well. Still sucks losing to Cal.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - fullmetal - 01-24-2026

I didn't realize how unsustainble the 16pt lead was until I realized how much of that had been a combination of dumb kal turnovers and hot shooting from Stanford.  The turnovers stopped, and Stanford shooters went cold...then we lost by 12.  Oof.  Maybe Stanford's defensive efforts helped with the turnovers, maybe not.  I would have liked to have seen Stanford try to drive and draw more fouls, but I saw fouls not being called when we did drive (JDS tried to put this team on his back, bless his heart, but he didn't get the calls).  Also, our bigs need to make those bunnies.  Those are the easiest looks they'll get, and tournament looks only get harder.  If they can't make those, they're not tournament stuff.

The bigs are Giltay, Kamann, Rohosy and Young. Kamann and Rohosy play all out but neither have much heft or lift. Nor are they 3 pt threats. Giltay is going to be excellent, but he's pencil thin now, and can't wrestle the ball from anybody. Nice to have Young back, and he at least has strength, but he doesn't look as bouncy as last year.

Okpara dribbled too much in the key, and occasionally rumbled out of control, but he had muscle, surprising skill, and played hard.

Btw, yesterday's green sheet has a main article re 2026 recruit Elias Obenyah, 6'5", from Richmond. Sounds promising.

Alas, seems like you have been proven correct.

Giltay just turned 19 and has a chance to be a difference maker. Rohosy (age 23?) and Cammann (21) are older and have some instincts and skills but remind me at times a little bit of MAS on the LSJU women's team - they would be league MVPs in the D-3 Nescac or Sciac, but even in a relatively weak ACC, they are facing opposition that is way better than D-3, this is Power 4 major college basketball.

LSJU is 14-6 with 11 regular season games remaining in the next several weeks, 7 of those games on the road (incl. at Berkeley). Going 6-5 or better would be great!

He had a bad game against Duke too, understandable since he was often doubled.

These ACC coaches aren't dumb - we can expect the double (even triple, like a couple of times yesterday) teams on Ebuka and double-daring of someone else (Bueller, Bueller?!?!?...)
to pick up the scoring slack from here on out, especially with Chisom out. Sorry, but other than JDS these last few games, no one else has been very consistent or reliable offensively

As a fellow member of the facially hirsute brotherhood, I had hopes for Benny Gealer. Oh, well.

Right -- They outshot us in our own gym... Aaagh. We shot 27%. Death.
We were up early 29-13, then down at half 38-34, tied at 60-60. Lost 78-66.
They made 10 threes of 28, and we were only 6 of 31. 12 point diff there.

... Cal did not suck, unfortunately.

The Treecast postgame interview with Coach Smith was informative/revealing to me (players got too amped up by the crowd, etc…). Kudos to Troy Clardy, John Platz, and Coach Smith for a good interview, particularly immediately after a disappointing result.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Cal, 5PM, ACCN - Treebound - 01-25-2026

Very disappointing game against our rivals yesterday.   We do not have an inside game to depend on if the threes are not going down.  I'm hopeful that Kyle will have that area much improved next year.  it was nice to see Maples reasonably full for this game and the students showed up, but it's clear they are mostly lost as basketball fans.   They need to bring back some leadership within the 6th Man club and teach them all some cheers as they looked pretty clueless at times durning the game and were out cheered by the weenie contingent.   This loss really hurts on multiple fronts and it's clear that teams now know the blueprint to counter or contain Okorie.   We are going to need some upsets down the stretch.
