Somewhat off topic, but the ACC is now 3-1 vs the Big 10 in NCAA WBB games this year (including 2 upsets):

Today
- 10 seed Virginia (tied for 8th in ACC) upset 2 seed Iowa (tied for 2nd in B1G)
- 6 seed Notre Dame (3-way tie for 5th in ACC) upset 3 seed Ohio State  (tied for 4th in B1G)

Yesterday
- 4 seed North Carolina (3rd in ACC) beat 5 seed Maryland (tied for 6th in B1G)
- 7 seed NC State (4th in ACC) lost to 2 seed Michigan (tied for 2nd in B1G)

ACC women doing much better than the men.  There are 5 ACC WBB teams in the Sweet 16, including Duke, who crushed Baylor (the 3rd place Big 12 team) by 23 points yesterday and 3-seed Louisville who barely edged 6-seed Alabama.  (It won't be 6.  Syracuse is down 12-65 to UConn at the half.)

Just a quibble: I don't think Umeh was suited up -- pretty sure she is redshirting -- but she was on the bench in sweats and came out to help with warmups. Counting her, 13 were present, and the other 12 definitely were suited up and available.

Sadly, Missouri is getting smacked. BYU was up 28-7 after the first quarter. Missouri has closed to 37-22 with 4 minutes left in the first half.

BYU looks formidable especially at home if current score holds. Not sure we can beat them even if we play really well. Was hoping for another home game.

- 3 with season-ending injuries
Umeh, Lepolo, and Peterson (maybe physically able to play but she missed so much time with injuries, she's not in playoff game shape)
- 2 who quasi walk-ons who don't play meaningful minutes
- 2 frosh who are still raw and have played limited minutes this season
Amborn and Ezike

Playing 7 seems about right.

Is it known why Lara Somfai left and went back to Hungary before the team finished its season? Seems strange to me.

All I know is what they said on the two broadcasts - that she is with her family in Hungary for personal reasons.  She still shows StanfordWBB on her Instagram, but I'm sure she wouldn't announce anything until the season was over.  I hate to even speculate that it is anything other than a true family emergency, but we live in the world with NIL so I can't help but worry.

Also, she lives in Australia.. She just has family in Hungary. (Her parents moved to Australia when she was little.) So she didn't really go "back" to Hungary.

I think I heard her parents were going to move from Australia back to Hungary. I don't know where they are now, but could be Hungary. Also of course Lara has other family members there.

I hope my gut is wrong, but my gut is telling me Somfai is out the door. I just can't see a universe where if we made the tournament she'd still miss it even for a family emergency. But maybe after all the times we've been burned by the portal lately, I'm once (six times) bitten, twice shy. So I could be wrong...

If I'm not, I guess the good news is anyone worrying about Alex being discontented about minutes won't need to worry any longer, as she'll be starting next year and for the foreseeable future our only reliable big once Nunu graduates. (if she stays.)

BYU won and will host Thursday. To be honest, I'll be very surprised if we pull that off. Road game at altitude with little time to scout and a short week turnaround.

I don't think anyone (maybe not even Lara) knows what she plans to do. My guess is she is taking some time off to help her family move back to Hungary and contemplate her future. She can either come back to Stanford, take one of the lucrative NIL offers that has/will be offered to her if she enters the transfer pool or even stay in Hungary and participate in European pro basketball.
Time will of course tell. We may not know until the transfer pool opens.
I doubt if she weren't at least thinking about leaving if she would have skipped the tourney, but who knows.

RE: your point about Alex...agree that she is in a great position to start next year and play a lot of minutes. However, that is the case with many players around the country yet they still transfer. Some are being opportunistic (maybe Olivia Miles), some are simply dissatisfied and want to go elsewhere (maybe Nivar) and others are both (maybe Betts). With the current Stanford team, we don't know if any of our players are dissatisfied. I hope they all love KP, the program, and Stanford as a whole, and they simply aren't up for chasing opportunities.The scary thing to me is that the team has underperformed and the players don't look like they are "playing with joy". They look pretty frustrated (just my opinion). Sprinkle on this development with Lara leaving the team and it doesn't feel very rosy. Fingers crossed...

Reluctantly agree with BillBradley, JohnR, 2006Alum, et al. -- the McD's AA's probably came to LSJU expecting at least a second weekend in the NCAA tourney, not an under-the-radar trip to Provo in the WBIT. 

With the new WNBA players agreement, the salaries there are improving dramatically and with such a limited number of roster spots, every decent collegian will want to maximize their college career arc and NIL earnings, and personal brand, to set themselves up for making a WNBA roster. Is LSJU on the list of go-to schools for doing so?

In all of the videos and interviews I've seen/heard with Lara this year (and there have been many), she has seemed very happy at Stanford (especially the academic side).  I can't imagine not getting a tournament bid this season would be enough by itself for Lara to pick up and leave, but who knows  Also, with 5 ACC teams in the Sweet 16, it's clear the ACC was very strong this season (on the Women's side).  I wouldn't think anyone needs to leave Stanford to build a strong draft resume.  But again, who knows what Lara is thinking right now.

I watched Betts last night.  She was dominant.  Excellent footwork and unstoppable near the basket.  I wish there had been a way to get her more playing time at Stanford.  Even back then, although maybe a project at the time, the potential was obvious.

I remember watching her in her first pre-season game at Stanford and being so impressed.  I thought to myself "Liz Cambage without the crazy".  But Tara didn't really play her much and then she left.  What could have been.

i'm a bit worried that stanford was easy to access from australia, musch less so from europe.
