Of all the stupid moves that the stupid Giants have stupidly done over the last stupid year, letting Dom Smith go was probably the stupidest.

His stats have fallen off since the numbers you cited were posted. Smith is a platoon guy and there is no place for him in SF’s lineup. Devers at 1B and Eldridge at DH are a better combo than Smith and either Rafi or Bryce.

If you want to talk about stupid moves, pinning your starting rotation hopes on Houser/Mahle takes the cake with the failure to sign a major league closer a close second.

No dispute. The pitching staff is execrable, starting with those three moves and the recent fall off by their aces. Let's add the over reliance on low contact bombers. Sometimes it works out, like yesterday. More often, it does not.

Basically, now that there are more interleague games (48, accounting for 28% of each team’s schedule), and fewer divisional games, it becomes increasingly likely that an entire weak division (*cough* AL West *cough*) can be under .500. In fact, in the entire AL, only four teams have winning records.

Glad we replaced the third base coach. Now all we need to do is replace all 13 pitchers. and teach the fielders how to field. And teach batters other than Chapman how to take a walk. Other than that, we're doing great.

The good news is that all three of the Giants main minor-league teams are in first place in their respective leagues, so at least Randy Winn is doing his job.

Fans criticize Adames' defense, and he does have most errors at ss, but I think he gets to balls others don't and otherwise makes alot of difficult plays.

The 11-10, walkoff grand slam win was kind of fun, even though

Interesting team. #1 in doubles in MLB, #2 in triples, yet so little team speed that they are #30 -- dead last, and by a margin -- in stolen bases. They are #2 in team batting average in MLB, yet have so few walks (dead last with 160, next fewest is 190) that their OPS is just .307, #26 in MLB. And just #19 in home runs.

Although, if you look at the last 28 days, SFG is #1 in OPS , hits, doubles, triples and slugging % in all of MLB, #4 in runs scored and home runs, #5 in OBP and #8 in fewest strikeouts. Still #26 in walks and #27 in stolen bases. Maybe their hitting is turning around.

I was at the game last night, lot of fun, A's ahead 1-0, G's hit two HRs in the ninth inning for a walkoff. Everyone went home happy. Irish heritage night -- most gingers I've seen in one place in my life, I think.

I don't know if Austin Hedges is a better catcher than Bailey, but Bailey doesn't play much and his batting average is about the same as with Gyros early this season.

Today, the bullpen failed the Gs again giving up runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th to turn a 6-2 lead into a 9-6 loss. Bericota hit another homer and Lee brought in 3 with a poorly fielded triple.

I was at Oracle Park today for the late inning SFG bullpen debacle. The A's scored 4 runs with 2 outs in the 9th, keyed by ex-Palo Alto HS star, Henry Bolte (h/t Teejers).

Former LSJU star Erik Miller was part of the bullpen meltdown. He had given up only 2 ER all month, but surrendered a 2-out, 2 run single (in the 7th) to Langeliers, who had looked lost in his previous at bats, that started the A's comeback.

I'm not wowed by Devers body language and demeanor. He struts around like he's Babe Ruth but the way he's going, will his career end up being any better than, say, Chili Davis?

I like going to Oracle as much as the next person. My wife lives and dies with how they do. (I'm not sure she ever got over Dusty pulling Ortiz in Game 6.) Not a pleasant summer in that respect. When can I legitimately start to blame Buster "only here to answer baseball questions" Posey for a troubled homelife?

Davis had a good career. .274 hitter, .811 OPS, 350 HRs. Caught the tail end of the steroid era, his best two home run years were his age 35 and 36 years. 1994 is generally considered to be the start of the steroid era...in 1993, Davis hit .243, the next four years he hit .311, .318, and .292, OPS went from .767 to .971, .943, .884 and .886.
