We are still perfect in ACC play this season...

Damn, 12 point underdogs, at home, to a school picked to finish 13th in the conference.

BC

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - newguy - 09-09-2025

depends on who starts at QB.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - SkiBum80 - 09-10-2025

I predict a much closer game than the oddsmakers.
In fact I think we have a chance to pull out the win.
However, due to the expression, quite ironic given our football GM, "if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all",
I expect us to yet again create heartbreak among the multitudes of fans in attendance.
Assuming a very wide and lenient understanding of the word "multitude".
Baldwin the Eagle: 24    Stanford Tree: 23
And my prediction, if you bring along $6 cash, will buy you a latte at Starbucks.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - ADPinWDC - 09-10-2025

BC Jesuits DO have a QB in Lonergan.  He throws well to 5 or 7 receivers.
And they average more than 420 yards passing a game so far. (OK, against Fordham...but MIST is D-1)
Not only are Eagles favored by 12 (up from 10 point opening line), but you need to bet $450 to win $100 straight up.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - gailtate - 09-11-2025

Odds-makers have determined that an eminently mediocre and beatable opponent, who this week travels coast to coast no less, is essentially a TWO TOUCHDOWN favorite to thump the local kids. Thus, my interest in Stanford Football at this point is little more than morbid curiosity.

When it comes to respect, have the fading Cardinal become an unwatchable Rodney Dangerfield in cleats? Maybe that's what a #96-with-an-arrow-down rating will do. Two-touchdown 'dogs to mighty Boston College? At the home-opener? Oy.

BC does have a QB we tried very hard to recruit. His stats have been very impressive so far. Not sure how much a difference that is going to make.

I suspect it will make a very big difference, as in 4 passing TDs for him. But, I haven't taken into consideration that this will be our home opener, which should assure at least 7,324 fans in the stands, which could swing things in our direction.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - ADPinWDC - 09-11-2025

Depth Chart posted for BC:
No change to 1) Gulbranson, 2) Elijah Brown.   No "OR" typed in the spot.
https://gostanford.com/documents/68a24f50-b661-4327-96fe-f42b36d60399.pdf
I don't see any changes from BYU.

Not good:  Stanford Red Zone Offense = 1 for 5.   BC = 12 for 15.
We need 3 turnovers to pull the upset.  At home.

could it be that Coach Reich is trying to trick Boston College into thinking he's starting Gulbranson?

That would require a coach and GM who are willing to be a bit devious, say like Harbaugh.
We won't have a coach or GM who thinks like Harbaugh so it isn't going to happen, ever.

On another subject I am really disappointed in Andrew Luck.  No one in the AD seems willing to talk about why Gulbranson instead of Brown in public.  Why don't either the coach or the GM address this issue?  They want people in the stadium, they want people buying tickets, so why can't this subject be addressed in public?  I don't advocate throwing Gulbranson under the bus, I just think the few fans left deserve some sort of explanation why we are doing what we are doing.
Last year I made the 400 mile drive to go to an early season game, paid next to nothing to a scalper, and as soon as the game started moved from my endzone seat and sat with a friend on the 50 yard line.  The stadium was for all practical purposes empty.  How many people will really be willing to make the trek to see Saturday's game?  Count me out. At my age I see no point in engaging in activities that foster depression.
That said, when round ball season starts, I might well be willing to make the drive and spend 5 days around Stanford and see two games.
It can't be news to either Luck or Reich that the natives are restless, so why not say something?

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - old spanish trail - 09-11-2025

35-24 BC wins if BG is pulled after two series. 42-6 if we don't change QB's

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - JeebsOak - 09-12-2025

42-17 with 7 points by Stanford in garbage time.

Because the only logical thing to say (unless there is an undisclosed injury) is that based on their evaluation, as bad as Gulbranson has been, Brown is worse, and you are just not going to throw a kid under the bus like that.  If you were the coach, would there be any other reason you wouldn’t start Brown?

Whether the coach and GM are correct in their evaluation is TBD.  But the clamor for Brown here, as best as I can tell, is based on two premises; a) Gulbranson has been awful in his first two games and b) Brown was a highly touted recruit.  But those two facts don’t necessarily mean that Brown will perform better than Gulbranson.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - Papa John - 09-12-2025

If I channel my inner Pangloss, I can envision a scenario like November 3, 2012, only this time Elijah Brown--who in prior grames was deemed able but not ready--takes over for an ineffective Gulbranson and leads Stanford to victory and salvages the season.

But then reality hits and I go with the palindrome over Pangloss: BC 31, Stanford 13.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - Mick - 09-12-2025

My son attended a high school in which two of his classmates (Kyle Olugbode and Kevin Danser) later played for Stanford, a linebacker (Michael Clay, now Phil. Eagles ST Coach) played for Oregon and their quarterback played for Wyoming. Their HS team played in the CA state open division championship twice in three years.

Their games were a lot of fun to watch, very high-level for high school football. The next year, my son was a freshman at a 1-AA college, so I thought I'd take in a game. I left after a quarter, it was very painful to watch. The QB's first pass was to an RB on a flat route. He threw a 15-yard pass about ten yards.

Just like Gulbranson did, multiple times.

I simply cannot believe that Stanford, a Power 4 ACC team, doesn't have a better quarterback. The current QB resembles a not-very-good 1-AA quarterback. I realize that two former NFL QBs are in charge of this team (directly and indirectly) but is the cupboard really that bare?

I agree with you completely, you do not throw the kid under the bus, but if when option A is not working why not give option B a chance. Browns stats as a starter at Mater Dei, one of the best high school programs in the country are awsome.  42 and 2 during his time there.  His stats are significant.  Why doesn't he get a chance to show it?  If he fails, he fails, but maybe he won't.  It also makes you ask the question why a talent like Brown has not developed more?

I think the idea is BG has been so bad that there is little downside in putting in Brown. And while there are no guarantees Brown will perform better there is a possibility.

RE: 2025 Boston College at Stanford Predictions Thread - BostonCard - 09-12-2025

I think the most charitable explanation is that the coaches don’t believe that what Gulbranson has shown in the first two games of the year are commensurate with his potential.  And, his record at OSU *is* much better than what he has shown in two games at Stanford.  Basically, he’s a 60% completion, ~7 yards/attempt QB while at OSU, compared to about 50% completion, ~4 ypa in two games this year at Stanford.

So, the question is whether Gulbranson just had a bad two games stretch that is not representative of his play, or if he is a bad fit for the system or the weaknesses at other positions exacerbate his own shortcomings.
