This will be a long thread if people start listing all the #0 and #00 players they remember in all sports. In many sports the numbers are or were legal for a long time.
Only NCAA football has had a recent rule change from disallowing to allowing them. Does anyone know if college football allowed #0 in the past? Cal's web page about Johnny Olszewski shows him wearing 36 in college.
#0 has been legal in college and pro basketball for a long time, maybe forever. Does anyone know if it was ever not allowed in basketball? NCAA rules consider 0 and 00 the same, so you can't have both on the same team. The NBA used to have that rule, but changed it.
If Wikipedia is to be believed, 0 and 00 were legal in the NFL only until 1973. I gather players who already had those numbers (like 00 Jim Otto) were allowed to keep them. Otto played through 1974.
I don't know a thing about baseball, etc.
